server is online but steam says its not responding and i cant connect to the server

Become part of a great team that has nothing less as its goal than to be the world's best game server provider. Keep facing new, challenging and exciting tasks at a company that values your opinion.

open positions @ Nitrado
  • as said in the title the site says the server is online but steam says the server is not responding.

on servercheck it says every works.

it doesnt work with any port that you can use

  • Did it work for you? I have the same problem

  • Try using the correct Ip.

Query with steam is IP + Port, with increase by 1.

So if your port is 27105, try using 27106.

  • We did that.

    Try using the correct Ip.

Query with steam is IP + Port, with increase by 1.

So if your port is 27105, try using 27106.

We did that. I increased it with 1 and also tried to add the server to the steam favorites. I even tried the 3 option.

  • Try using HLSW?

If you put in the IP, it will autodetect its port#.

Or have you tried a server name search at

Being on the left no map name is listed, your server is not fully up.

  • thanks for your time by the way! We are checking tried it on servername and IP adress but it doesn't find it. What is HLSW?

  • HLSW - Game Server Browser and Administration Tool just an app you can put on your PC.

But if Battlemetrics didnt find it and the server has been up for at least 24hrs, I am not too sure its really up. Have you tried direct connecting from the Nitrado WebUI?

  • Then I will wait for 24 hours because it hasn't been that long yet. The dashboard said it would take a couple of minutes so I figured it should be working ;) Did not know that Nitrado thinks 24 hours is a couple of minutes :P

  • No, typically do not show the servers for that long.

As for a Nitrado server, if you see the IP and the map on the left, its up.

If you dont, check your mods. Check the logs. If that all fails and you dont want to wait you can try a reinstall.

Otherwise you will need to create a ticket with Nitrado Support.

  • I see no map on the left, I am not using mods. I checked the log but no idea what I should see there. I will try to reinstall! Alas tried to reinstall but still the same.

Steam protocol connect issue. Server not responding

This is probably not the best suited place for this. But I'm experiencing some problems trying to use the steamprotocol for NS2 servers.

It wasn't long ago that we finally got the Steam Serverbrowser, so I'm wondering if this issue is related somehow.

I'm trying to use the command:
steam://connect/<IP or DNS name>[:<port>][/<password>] Connects the user to the server specified by the IP or DNS name. You don't have to specify anything for connecting a third party mod server, it will be automaticly detected. Example: steam://connect/ Example: steam://connect/
Here's one example, of many, of where the server doesn't respond: Server Name: Wraith :: NSL :: Amsterdam #1 steam://connect/
Here's an example I got where the server does respond: TAW|Scrim 4 NSL [LU] steam://connect/
I can find and make the server respond through the steam server browser, so that is what is confusing me the most.

First off you will need to open up the steam interface in game by holding Shift and pressing Tab. Once there, attempt to join your friend and you should get the "The Server Is Not Responding" error. Copy the IP Address shown for the server.

Go back to killing floor and click Multiplayer. Once there right click the empty background while no servers are showing and click Open IP where it will prompt you to enter the IP Address for a server. Paste the IP Address you copied earlier and click OK. You should now be joining the server your friend is on!

Not steam server join responding game

Almost every server on every Source game is not responding

If this only happens after viewing the server browser -- that is, you can join a game just fine if you right click someone and click "Join", without browsing the server list -- you just need to turn the server ping rate down in Steam's settings.

It's in the same place as your download speed configuration in the Steam client.

You'll know you're having this problem if the internet in general starts acting odd for a few minutes after you try to view servers; it's because Steam is trying to fetch server information too fast and overloading your router. I had the same issue. (The fact that some servers is responding is what tipped me off; this problem will usually let a few show up but the majority will completely fail, and joining won't work at all for a few minutes)
