Who are the best anime characters ever? This list includes the top favorites in manga, possibly of all time. Be sure to vote for your own personal favorites, add any characters that might be missing and, of course, rerank this list of greatest anime characters in any order you want.

Not surprisingly, many of the best and most memorable anime characters, like L and Son Goku, are the stars of some of the best anime series of all time. Top 30 Most Badass Anime Characters Of All Time (Ranked)

It’s unavoidable that certain characters just shine brighter than others.

While some characters are there to just make us laugh, or to make us cry, it’s usually the badass showstopper characters that make the audience sugoi.

And for this ranking we’re going to be looking over some of the biggest badasses that anime has to offer.

So let’s watch out guys, cause it looks like we’ve got badasses over here.

30. Ken Kaneki

Ken Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul anime

Anime: Tokyo Ghoul

If this was a manga-only tier list, then Kaneki would have probably been higher up.

Nevertheless, the first and second season of the anime gave us plenty of material when it comes to this badass ghoul.

The crucial moment that rocketed Kaneki into the hall of greats was definitely his hair changing to white, as it was obvious he would take nothing from no one from that point on.

His fight with Jason was probably my favorite, and it alone solidified him as the end-of-list pick for this ranking.

29. Baki Hanma

Baki Hanma in Grappler Baki

Anime: Grappler Baki

When it comes to the proportions of testosterone per pound of body mass, this dude even makes the JoJos look average.

Baki is no less than a muscle machine, capable of doing pretty much anything short of flying.

He also has that badass aura that’s activated whenever he gives someone a slightly stern look.

This AoE fear factor has sent armed thugs running away plenty of times throughout the show, and for good reason.

28. Yami Sukehiro

Yami Sukehiro in Black Clover anime

Anime: Black Clover

Usually when you get a samurai character they’re tall, skinny, mysterious, and outspoken.

Yami never got that memo and just looks like a slightly deflated Baki.

However, his attitude and his power is far greater and way more badass.

The dude never seems to worry much in battle, as he always just knows that he can surpass his limits and look any foe in the eye if given enough time to ramp up.

And when he does go all out, it’s truly a beauty. As the combination of dark shadow-based magic and a katana is nothing short of awesome.

27. Ghislaine Dedoldia

Ghislaine Dedoldia in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

Anime: Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation

Although Ghislaine initially just seemed as a fan service character, she quickly became one of my favorites in the show.

This is because everything that could have been ecchi about her is substituted with badassery.

She’s an incredible warrior and never really needs backup from anyone. She also genuinely doesn’t care for men, but also doesn’t hate them.

I’d argue she’s a proper warrior that will behead you in an instant if you touch her employer, and she even sought higher education to be more well-rounded.

Even primetime ecchi material (like her butt) is just used to showcase how powerful and hardworking she is.

26. Firo Prochainezo

Firo Prochainezo Baccano! anime screenshot

Anime: Baccano!

Firo was just dripping from swag the second he came into frame.

He’s an excellent fighter that’ll both kick your ass, and somehow look elegant while doing it.

He always looks dashing. And his choice of waifus is definitely S-tier.

I mean, I’m honestly surprised that more characters didn’t see the absolute waifu stonks that were present with Ennis. He always comes off as a gentleman and a true mafia member at the same time, which is pretty badass.

25. Zoro Roronoa

Zoro Roronoa from One Piece anime

Anime: One Piece

Zoro is an OG badass that has been giving us high-tier sword fights for decades now.

He’s among the more serious members of the crew, and you can always count on him to keep the situation under control.

His stoic demeanor plus his sick skill with the blade is just a guaranteed hit with any shounen lover.

Especially when the third sword comes out. Then I get serious Zabuza flashbacks and simply know that I’m in for a ride.

24. Hawks

Hawks in My Hero Academia

Anime: My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia had quite a few candidates for this list:

Dabi, Stain, and Overhaul, just to name a few right away. But with the fifth season, I’m on the Hawks hype train.

We all knew he was going to be an interesting player from his introduction, as he gave little regard to the usual hero ideal and just wanted to work from the shadows.

He’s also immensely powerful and versatile. But it’s his nonchalant attitude and mysterious past that really had me hooked on his character.

23. Garou

Garou from One Punch Man anime

Anime: One Punch Man

I don’t know whether I’m in the minority here, but I really liked the second season of One Punch Man.

The key selling point was definitely Garou as he fell in-line with the typical shounen protagonist way more than Saitama ever did.

The dude is just tenacious beyond belief. And every fight feels like a little character arc, as he always comes out of it stronger than he was when he went in.

His wild appearance mixed with some sick martial arts and a gift for combat made Garou the highlight of the second season for me. And I think people need to stop sleeping on this badass.

22. Ban

Ban in The Seven Deadly Sins

Anime: The Seven Deadly Sins

Ban probably had the best introduction in the show, with the only possible exception being Full Pringle Escanor.

We see this dude getting tortured, looking lifelessly into the distance. But the second he hears Meliodas is coming, he just busts out and uses his enemy’s attack to get a fresh shave before his big date with his friend.

They then proceed to tear the entire castle down through the cheer power of arm-wrestling.

How can you not immediately fall in love with this dude?

21. Rokurouta Sakuragi

Rokurouta Sakuragi from Rainbow anime

Anime: Rainbow

This guy is one of the rare cases where a character was so blindingly nice and borderline angelic that it actually made him look like the biggest badass around. I’m serious!

Even though his cellmates were all strangers to him a day prior, he immediately took them all in and protected them from the corruption making its rounds through the prison.

Okay, he did also initially beat them up to prove a point… but that just makes him even more badass!

So if you too want to be a badass, maybe look up to this guy.

20. Sinbad

Sinbad from Magi: Adventure of Sinbad anime

Anime: Magi: Adventure of Sinbad

When it comes to morality, Sinbad is a difficult guy to peg.

On a surface level he does seem like the ultimate good guy who’s trying to create a nation where everyone can be at home.

On the other hand though, he’s nearly a god when it comes to power. And he has no issues with blowing away anyone who dares oppose him and his ideals.

But that just made him so interesting to watch!

He was a dude that literally grabbed life with both hands and decided where to steer it.

His powers are always visually cool, and his more serious moments were highlight of both this show and the sequel.

19. Shinya Kougami

Shinya Kougami in Psycho-Pass anime

Anime: Psycho-Pass

The good cop/bad cop dynamic is a landmark of any good detective or crime series.

And when it comes to anime, Psycho-Pass is arguably one of the biggest.

And let’s face it: even though we would all wish to get the good cop if we were in their shoes, it’s way more interesting to see what the bad cop is going to do next.

Shinya is a prime example of this trope. He’s anything but plain, yet he always gets results.

That badboy energy stays with him throughout the series, and is arguably the thing that gave the show its initial edge.

18. Thorfinn

Thorfinn in Vinland Saga anime

Anime: Vinland Saga

Who doesn’t enjoy the occasional revenge plot?

Thorfinn’s was especially fun to watch, as the dude just had no chill.

Although it seemed odd at first for him to hang out with the very people he swore to kill, that’s quickly pushed to the side as we get to see him become a badass warrior.

Even though he’s small in stature, Thorfinn easily took on dozens of armed guards without even breaking a sweat.

And he brought back the severed heads of generals to cash in like they were arcade tickets.

His brutality was a bit shocking, but also very badass.

17. Hyakkimaru

Hyakkimaru from Dororo anime

Anime: Dororo

I love underdog stories. And Hyakkimaru is so below the dog that he’s at hell’s door.

This is because he was given one of the worst starting hands of almost any anime character, being completely void of basically everything we humans take for granted – like sight, pain, limbs, and even skin.

And yet he manages to become this complete badass who can take on literal demons and entire army squads by himself.

It never seems like he enjoys killing. But his will is so iron-clad that he also never hesitates when it’s time to land the finishing blow.

And when he goes berserk, it’s awesome and terrifying at the same time.

16. Roy Mustang

Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Anime: Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

As one of the top rated anime in existence, it’s no wonder that FMA has quite the strong line-up of characters.

Roy was among my favorites in the series, as he was the type to usually slack off and appear a bit harsh, all while being extremely caring and thoughtful on the inside.

His form of alchemy was also just badass on every level. He literally snapped you out of existence.

And his fight with a certain someone went down in history as one of the most satisfying arc conclusions in anime – or at least I think it did.

15. Akabane Karma

Akabane Karma from Assassination Classroom anime

Anime: Assassination Classroom

Karma was an instant hit, in my opinion, as he finally brought some edge to the mostly PG class.

Which is quite important considering they’re all training to be assassins.

He always taught outside of the box, and wasn’t afraid of anything if it meant achieving his goal. Even jumping off a cliff was fair game.

Throughout the show we see that he’s an incredible fighter, and that he’s mentally a few steps ahead the average assassin – making him extremely fun to watch.

He also somehow managed to get good guy and badass points at the same time when he fought Nagisa.

14. Angelo Lagusa

Angelo Lagusa in 91 Days anime

Anime: 91 Days

I already mentioned how I like revenge stories. But I forgot to mention that mob-related revenge stories are an instant must-watch in my book.

Angelo was honestly born to be a mobster, as his cool temperament and deductive reasoning seemed to get him out any sticky situation.

He was also quite the manipulator, as he laid low right below his enemies’ nose, waiting for the ideal opportunity.

When stakes were high, Angelo never failed to deliver some quality content. And I for one was really glad at how the series concluded.

13. Izaya Orihara

Izaya Orihara Durarara!! anime screenshot

Anime: Durarara!!

I really like clever characters. Light, Lelouch, and Johan are just a few worth naming.

But they usually lack that little something for me to view them as true badasses. They just rarely got their hands dirty.

Izaya, however, was a pleasant surprise. As he was a master tactician as well as an avid fighter.

Although he usually avoided confrontation, he was completely capable of whipping out his switch-blade and duking it out with one of the strongest dudes in the entire series.

This double threat nature just made him look so cool in my eyes.

12. Chrollo

Chrollo from Hunter x Hunter (2011) anime

Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Although we don’t really see Chrollo that much throughout the series, he has made an everlasting impression on me with two key scenes.

Spoiler alerts here:

My first example is the scene when he took on the Zoldyck duo by himself and immerged mostly unscathed, even though his opponents were among the strongest in their world.

But the real selling point was when he conducted a symphony of chaos, as he calmly jammed out to some Mozart while his gang brought chaos to the city.

This one scene had such a high badass coefficient that it would have qualified Chrollo for this list by itself, even if it was his only appearance.

11. Spike Spiegel

Spike Spiegel in Cowboy Bebop

Anime: Cowboy Bebop

Spike has a very dualistic charm. He seems like a completely different person when he’s on the job vs. when he has time on his hands.

When there’s nothing to do, he just lays around and kills time by killing his lungs slowly. Which makes him quite relatable.

But when he’s on the job and the chips are down, he’s shown as being incredibly tenacious. And his fighting style does so much more than just being an homage to the likes of Bruce Lee, as he has some master class choreography.

The dude has been a staple in any anime watcher’s diets for over a decade strong. And I doubt anyone is going to forget about this particular badass for quite some time.

10. Giorno Giovanna

Giorno Giovanna from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind

Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind

From the get-go I knew that part five was going to be amazing. What could possibly be bad about a JoJo season that’s centered around mobsters?

But I was not prepared for the level of coolness Giorno was going to bring to the table.

Aside from being one of the few protagonists in the franchise who wasn’t opposed to murder (by banana no less), his attitude was just to die for.

He never backed down from a challenge. And he was extremely creative (and sometimes brutal) when it came down to getting the W for his gang.

9. Mugen

Mugen from Samurai Champloo anime

Anime: Samurai Champloo

Personally, Mugen has a very similar appeal as Spike, as he too can switch between lazy womanizer and sword prodigy at the drop of a hat.

His fighting style was also a spectacle to look at, as it was very raw and creative in nature. Oftentimes it looked more like a hip-hop routine than a life-saving maneuver.

His bluntness was also a cool touch, as he seemingly followed every stereotype that would describe a samurai of his caliber.

The dude was just out here living his best life. And you have to love him for it.

8. Sukuna Ryoumen

Sukuna Ryoumen in Jujutsu Kaisen anime

Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen

I’ve seen plenty of shounen use the “demon/monster inside of the protagonist” trope.

But none have ever been as cool as Sukuna.

This is because Sukuna was actually terrifying, showcasing multiple times how little of a damn he gave for the life of his host.

In fact, he even employed some pretty underhanded tactics to get his way.

He also has quite the ego, leading to some extremely badass scenes where he would basically smite someone while sitting on his throne of bones.

Take notes, shounen creators, this is how you do the trope justice!

7. Alucard

Alucard from Hellsing Ultimate anime

Anime: Hellsing Ultimate

If you’re into dark and gritty characters, Alucard is probably at the very top of your list.

This is because he feels like a terrifying god in his universe, playing around with his pray before sending them into oblivion.

Everything about him was custom-made to be extremely badass, from his outfit to his powers. He ruled every scene that he was in.

And he also had quite the attitude, sometimes sounding like a little troll that’s just amusing himself – even when multiple lives hang in the balance.

6. Levi

Levi from Attack on Titan anime

Anime: Attack on Titan

I’m still amazed at how consistently Levi managed to blow me away throughout the show.

When it comes to strength, it isn’t even a competition.

When it comes to dedication, few can stand in the ring with him.

And when it comes to character, not even some of the main cast has shown as much depth as our short king.

His painfully realistic outlook on life made for some excellent and even thought-provoking scenes. And his capability to splatter the entire frame in blood has made quite a few hype moments.

5. Hisoka Morow

Hisoka Morow in Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

I love morally ambiguous characters.

They always keep me on my toes.

And Hisoka is probably one of the best examples of this archetype.

Although I can’t really condone his kinks, this killer clown is fascinating to look at. He only really lives for himself.

His whim can make the difference of whether someone lives or dies, and his need to murder in such a condescending and often flamboyant manner makes for some great plot twist.

You can never tell what he’s thinking. And I find it nearly impossible to imagine Hisoka being in any other state besides “badassery”.

4. Guts

Guts from Berserk anime

Anime: Berserk

Take everything I said about Hyakkimaru, then increase the numbers ten-fold, and you’ll get Guts.

The dude was literally born from a corpse, and somehow his life still managed to go downhill from there.

Manga readers, you know what I’m talking about.

But nevertheless, time and time again he manages to stay on top and become no less than a legend within his world.

The word “tenacious” can’t even begin to describe this man. And when he smells blood in the water, it truly is a page-turner.

3. Joutarou Kuujou

Joutarou Kuujou in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

Anime: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

Even though I stan my boy Giorno, I think that in terms of badassery, no one can come close to this dude.

He’s the living definition of a brooding badboy, and has somehow managed to stay in that role throughout the entire series.

Appearance-wise, he’s completely decked out. And I’m certain that even one serious gaze from this dude could silence an entire detention center.

He also has quite the good head on his shoulders, as he rarely wins through brute force, but rather by outsmarting his opponents.

And some of his plans require so much courage that you really have to doubt his cannon age for a second.

2. Satoru Gojo

Satoru Gojou / Jujutsu Kaisen anime screenshot

Anime: Jujutsu Kaisen

I feel like Gojo goes against nearly everything I’ve defined as being “badass characteristics” in this list.

Gojo is constantly goofing off, and usually has the mental presence of a ten-year-old after 300 grams of sugar.

But then you realize that his demeanor simply comes from the sheer amount of power he holds in his hands.

This dude just flexes on every opponent dumb enough to get in his way, and uses his power in such a stunning way that you end up glued to the screen for the entire fight.

He also knows that he’s far from naïve, as his plans for the future are not nearly as carefree as one would think.

1. Itachi Uchiha

Itachi Uchiha from Naruto: Shippuden anime

Anime: Naruto: Shippuden

Itachi was the character that kept bringing me back to Naruto.

Even though he had such limited screen time, his presence was always felt.

Everything about this dude is just beyond badass.

From his iron-clad will and ideology to his fighting technique and visual design, you would be hard-pressed to find a character that’s as badass as Itachi.

From being the ultimate bad guy in Sasuke’s arc, to then becoming the unsung hero of an entire generation, this man was always a step ahead of the game.

So I think it’s only fair to crown him with the number one spot.

15 Most Popular Characters in Anime History (According to My Anime List)

An anime's popularity hinges on its characters. These are some of the most well received anime characters out there.

As hard as it is to admit, judging an anime is not always about the quality of the writing or animation. More often than not, it brings fans of any age back to the wild tribalism of their middle school lunch room as dominance is decided, not by wit or strength, but by a popularity contest. Which kid had the coolest shoes? Who had a cookie in their Lunchables? Whose dad "works at Nintendo"?

As is constant with the early days of humankind, those who stand at the top are those who are most popular, and this is no different for anime and its characters, where the next casual fan may have their next anime of choice dictated by what they see the most, either in the recommendations of YouTube or on the backpacks and t-shirts of their fellow weebs.

Whether it be the best looking, more intriguing, or most badass character, anime as a medium is one that is often defined by its most popular characters. Whether they perfectly condense all that one loves about a series into a personified form or just absolutely steal the show, anime characters are a performance worth paying for on their own. Bringing things back to the glory days of that middle school lunchroom, this list will be deciding who really is the coolest of the cool, as it runs down the Top 10 most popular characters in anime history (according to the community votes of My Anime List as of this writing).

Updated May 20th, 2020:Much like any other industry, the anime world has a competitive atmosphere whose landscape is constantly shifting. And while the studios may compete for a share of their audience, anime characters themselves also indirectly compete for attention, with the faces of the industry constantly changing within the fans' eyes. As such, this list will be adding a few more faces that have risen among the anime ranks, as well as adjusting for new rankings and votes within MyAnimeList.

15 Kazuto Kirigaya (40,164 Votes)

Sword Art Online has become a behemoth within the anime world for both influencing the isekai boom that fans know today as well as rising as one of the most successful franchises in anime history. And while each member of its eclectic cast has played a part in defining the series, its main man will always be the pro gamer himself, Kirito.

Whether fans are relating to his quiet attitude or just love his various adventures within video games and romance, Kirito is filling up heart containers everywhere with his charisma.

14 Kurisu Makise (42,666 Votes)

Steins;Gate was a pivotal and influential anime in more ways than one, but the area that really counts is in crafting one of the most famous tsunderes in anime. Kurisu "Christina" Makise is the reluctant partner in crime and science to the series' lead (more on him later). Her biting tongue made for some great rapport, and her sweet side helped compliment the famous endearing quality of the series main cast.

While good on their own, these qualities gave some weight to the twist in the beginning that she may very well die in the series. Grabbing the viewers tighter as the series gone on, fans began to love and worry more and more for their beloved Christina.

13 Hachiman Hikigaya (42,723 Votes)

The anime industry has taken a hit with the current crisis, with one of the most infamous delays being for the long-awaited return of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. Perhaps the biggest call for fans' concern is the fact that they'll have to wait just a little longer for anime's king of self-deprecation, Hachiman Hikigaya.

A realist who still selflessly serves the betterment of his fellow students, Hachiman is a strong take on the high school protagonist that fans just can't help but be intrigued by and the people who actually take the time to know him just can't help but fall in love with him.

12 Itachi Uchiha (43,223 Votes)

Sasuke Uchiha is one of the most famous edge lords in all of anime, but he wouldn't be what he is today without the older brother that he probably stole mixtapes and t-shirts from.

RELATED: Top 10 Edgy Anime Characters That Defined Our Childhoods

Itachi Uchiha is the anti-hero that fans didn't think for a second was bad, as they stared into his dreamy, Sharingan filled eyes. Whether it's his iconic design, mysterious history, or cool moves, Itachi made millions of fans everywhere question why he isn't the Uchiha the series focused on.

11 Killua Zoldyck (48,832 Votes)

Hunter x Hunter is far from being a one-character show. Even now, the series has pivoted across an entirely different perspective, giving fans awe to how versatile and complex this spectacular Shonen can be. If there was ever a character to define how cool and varied this series can be, it would be none other than Killua Zoldyck.

Though the series tries to relegate him as Gon Freecss' sidekick, Killua managed to grab a lot of attention for his mysterious family history, lethal talent, and constant contemplation of purpose and morality.

10 Sakata Gintoki-Gintama (51,200 Votes)

Starting off this list is the class clown of anime who can make anyone laugh or even cry at the drop of a hat. Gintama alone is a series known as the king of anime comedy, infamous for its surreal humor, loveable characters, and insurmountable amount of pop culture references that even put Family Guy to shame.

Leading the series' motley crew of clowns is the "White Demon" himself, Sakata Gintoki. Once a revolutionary during the alien invasion version of Japan's Edo period, Gin now finds himself doing "odd jobs" across town just to make ends meat, whether it's assisting in a sushi shop, solving local detective cases, or fighting off aliens. What helps elevate Gin to this list is his ability to pull off straight faced jokes, ecstatic straight man routines, and endearing, stoic lines, playing cool as both the humble fool and hard boiled badass with such mastery that Gin really sees no equal within his industry.

9 Naruto Uzamaki-Naruto (58,366 Votes)

Sitting at #9 is one the main characters of the infamous "Big Three," the Hidden Leaf Village's "Nine-Tailed Fox," Naruto Uzamaki. Naruto defines the very essence of "started at the bottom," as he began his journey as the incompetent outcast of his ninja school, only for the fans to cheer and cry as they watched him work and scrape to the top, training with the perviest of sages, fighting off the most powerful ninjas, and still finding time to look after his friends.

The #1 Knucklehead became #1 in several anime fan's hearts, as he gave some of anime's best fights, character dramas, and underdog stories. And, just a couple of years ago, Naruto reached that rare breed of shounen protagonist that actually gets to achieve their dreams, as he finally became the 7th Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village, making readers and viewers who followed along the way feel like proud parents.

8 Roronoa Zoro-One Piece (62,906 Votes)

Proving that supporting characters and second-in-commands can be beloved within their own right, the "Pirate Hunter" and first mate of the Straw Hat pirates, Roronoa Zoro, makes this list. In the beginning, Zoro was just a loudmouthed kid who thought that just having more swords meant he was stronger. However with diligent training and the pains of a lost rivalry, he'd go on to master the illustrious three-sword style and mature into the stoic badass that fans love to this day.

On his journey to become the world's best swordsmen, Zoro has paved (in more cases, cut) a path of destruction that has left behind buildings, robots, and some of One Piece's best antagonists. He is the coolheaded bedrock that has supported and guided Luffy as the Captain of the Straw Hats and a trusted companion that has proven to fans in more than one occasion what loyalty really means.

7 Rintarou Okabe-Steings;Gate (64,901 Votes)

Moving away from the more combat heavy series, this list enters sci-fi/suspense/visual novel territory, as it looks into anime's favorite mad scientist and the leader of the Future Gadget Research Establishment, Rintarou Okabe. Rin encapsulates everything that any struggling college/STEM student should aspire to be.

RELATED: 10 Sci-Fi Anime That Redefine the Genre

He is a first-year at Tokyo Denki University who's decided to move his operations to Akihabara and open up his own time travel research lab, leading a group of engineers who are more otaku than scientist. Rin draws fans in with his eccentric and over the top behavior but absolutely traps the viewer's attention with his hidden levels of sincerity and intrigue, as the series dives deeper into its own mysteries, putting Rin into a variety of high concept, moral dilemmas that give an already interesting character plenty to work with.

6 Light Yagami-Death Note (68,258 Votes)

On a similar note of high concept, moral questions and suspense is the teenage savior of humanity and punisher of all that is evil, "Kira" Light Yagami. Light was once the good looking prodigy of his high school whose societal and family pressures only made him more and more distant from the mundane elements of every day life, until the opportunity of a lifetime literally fell at his feet, and he would begin a journey of world salvation and mass murder.

Having found the Death Note and entering a companionship with the death god Ryuk, Light now has the ability to kill anyone, anywhere by dictating their name and even cause of death within the Death Note. Taking upon the identity of "Kira," Light uses his newfound opportunity to kill all of the worst criminals of the world, showing closure to some while launching a worldwide conspiracy/mystery to others. With his genius level intellect and eccentric passion, Light has lead fans in one of anime's greatest cat-and-mouse chases.

5 Edward Elric-Fullmetal Alchemist (69,513 Votes)

Acting as the protagonist to one of the greatest Shounen anime of all time, the "Fullmetal Alchemist" Edward Elric has brought fans equal parts spunky, underdog passion and morally conflicted human drama that most, if any, other Shounen protagonists don't achieve.

After an alchemy experiment gone wrong that left him without an arm and his brother's soul trapped in a suit of armor, Ed has lead fans on an absolutely stunning journey of existential and religious drama, political intrigue, heartwarming friendships, and epic, high concept alchemy battles. Despite his arrogant, loudmouthed nature, Edward Elric was the face of an adventure that anime fans everywhere ironically prayed for a happy ending.

4 Levi Ackerman-Attack on Titan (71,809 Votes)

Moving on to a master of blades of a different breed is humanity's strongest soldier as well as the Captain of the Scouting Legion division and the Special Operations Squad, Levi Ackerman. Since his introduction, Levi has earned more than just the fans' love, as he's absolutely taken their respect, as his role as the cold, stern faced captain scares to near Fullmetal Jacket levels but is mitigated by his tactful nature and genuine concern for his mission and team.

Beyond a leadership that even gets viewers standing to attention, Levi is also an incredible fighter on the battleground, as he's showcased some of Attack on Titan's most intense moments fighting off titans and other soldiers alike. Anyone who misjudges this man by his short stature may soon find themselves at the wrong end of a blade.

3 Monkey D. Luffy-One Piece (77,532 Votes)

Appropriately entering in at #3 is the leader of Shounen Jump's "Big Three," the Captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy.  The son of an infamous revolutionary and the grandson of a beloved marine, Luffy surprisingly had humble beginnings as just a little kid looking up to his pirate hero, "Red Haired" Shanks. After eating the Gum Gum fruit and being raised by bandits, Luff would go on to lead his own journey to become King of the Pirates, leading a loveable crew of misfits and outcasts that have ingrained the series with tons of personality.

RELATED: One Piece: The 10 Highest Bounties Ever

And no other member of that crew has more personality than the captain himself, as the fun loving, simple minded rubber man has made fans laugh, cry, and stare in awe, as Luffy's personal brand of justice and freedom are as provocative as they are endearing. Luffy's just a guy who's hard to hate, which falls in line with being a Shounen protagonist, but his own personal flavor promotes acceptance and dreaming in a way that other Shounen protagonists just haven't done.

2 L Lawliet-Death Note (92,662 Votes)

Surpassing his main character counterpart is Light Yagami's foil and the world's greatest detective, L Lawliet. It's no wonder that L has received as many votes as he did, as he's just an aesthetically distinct character. Whether it's his high level intelligence, eccentric personality, off center posture, or sweet tooth diet, L just leaves an impression on the viewer's mind which certainly adds to the intrigue of an already enthralling suspense series.

Beyond just matching Light in intelligence, L is a perfect foil in aesthetics alone, as his social ineptitude and strange aura allow him to gun past Light's more complex strategic and social reasoning. In the battle of the kid everybody loves versus the outcast that's just hard to look away from, L oddly wins out in a major popularity contest.

1 Lelouch Lamperouge-Code Geass (112,860 Votes)

Ranking in at #1 is a complex character leading complex characters in one of anime's most tightly structured and multifaceted series. Lelouch Lamperouge was at one point a prince 17th in line to the throne who renounced his status after the assassination of his mother and the crippling of his sister. Having been a political hostage in banishment within Japan as a student, Lelouch found his opportunity for revenge and redemption as he stumbled upon C.C., a mysterious girl who grants him the power of Geass, a strange ability that lets him dictate the actions of any person once.

With his newfound gift, Lelouch continues down a path of redemption and destruction as he becomes the leader of the revolutionary group the Order of the Black Knights, lies to and betrays his friends, and kills hundreds and thousands of people in the process. Seeing what type of man he becomes as he comes out the other side is just titillating enough to bring fans across a deep moral analysis and human drama.

RANKING 300+ ANIME CHARACTERS!!! (Anime Character Tier List)

Top 50 Strongest Anime Characters Of All Time (Ranked)

Besides the obligatory waifu wars that have been raging on for millennia, another hot button topic is a simple one: who’s the strongest character in anime?

And since almost every fandom turns these into hot debates anyways, why not throw my hat into the fiery ring of hell.

In this list I’ll be going over some of the strongest anime characters of all time, ranked by yours truly.

The ranking will be a mix of in-world power, as well as overall power, so keep that in mind.

50. Puck

Puck from Re:Zero anime

Anime: Re:Zero

A rather fluffy beginning to this list, but still a very valuable one.

In his base form Puck doesn’t seem too out of the norm. He flies around Emilia, jokes around, fires a few ice spells, and that’s it.

But when he gets serious it’s a whole different story.

He transforms into a giant beast who saps the mana out of everything around him, turning it into ice.

In this form, he can one-shot a normal person with an angry glare. And if he rampages he could definitely take out an army or two.

49. Asta

Asta Black Clover anime screenshot

Anime: Black Clover

As far as general power goes, Asta is pretty trash. Especially by shounen standards.

However, in-world he is a powerhouse.

This is because the little shrimp hard-counters the entire world he lives in. Every fighter in Black Clover uses magic and locates their enemies through their magical presence or whatever.

But Asta completely negates magic with his swords, and is invisible to detection because the lad literally has zero magic power.

There’s also the whole demonic origin of his powers. And we all know that he’s only going to get stronger and stronger.

48. Akame

Akame from Akame ga Kill! anime

Anime: Akame ga Kill!

The thing with Akame is that she’s guaranteed to one-shot you, with even just a graze.

This is because her sword puts a “death mark” on you. But instead of letting you pass the Chunin exams, it just kills you. And that’s very relevant when the wielder of said sword is as fast and precise as Akame is.

But honestly, that alone would not land her a place on this list.

However, having the power of what we in the business like to call “hacks” is a different story.

I’m not going to spoil anything. But her powers don’t even make sense by the end.

47. Muzan Kibutsuji

Muzan Kibutsuji in Demon Slayer anime

Anime: Demon Slayer

Demon Slayer would have hardly been such a joy to watch, if it weren’t for a strong villain.

And Muzan is pretty nuts in all regards. Just being a demon already means that during the night he’s invincible to everything that doesn’t harbor the power of the Sun.

But Muzan can also create other demons, and not some baby foot soldiers. But real demons that the protagonists barely fend off.

If we get into some manga spoiler territory, we see both how much Muzan had to be nerfed, as well as how many people had to help for him to finally be brought down. So definitely a solid spot.

46. Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade

Kiss-shot Acerola-orion Heart-under-blade from Kizumonogatari anime

Anime: Kizumonogatari

Kiss-shot is the type of character that makes you remember how powerful and awesome vampires are.

I mean Jesus, those regeneration abilities are just insane. Losing a limb is brought to the same level of losing an eyelash.

Just her presence kicks off most of the action throughout the show because she’s so powerful that she sets everything out of whack.

And if you’re all caught up on the Monogatari series, then you know that she took over the world at one point. Just because she got all cranky.

I think that deserves to, at the very least, be bottom tier of “strongest anime peeps”.

45. Eren Yeager

Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan

Anime: Attack on Titan

I’m really sensing a pattern here with shounen protagonists getting ridiculous in the manga, yet somehow always being mediocre in the anime.

Well nevertheless, since you’re reading this in the future, you’ll understand why Eren is here.

With that said, I’m not going to spoil anything.

I’ll just say that by the time the anime catches up, you’ll see Eren become such a powerhouse that he’s a far greater threat than any titan or human ever was.

Like seriously, I could see him being the monster in a horror movie or something.

44. Kazuto Kirigaya

Kazuto Kirigaya in Sword Art Online anime

Anime: Sword Art Online

Kirito’s entire character could be summed up with just “strong dude”.

Because in the original series, that was kind of all he was. A wet blanket of a character who God himself couldn’t smite down because his HP regen is through the roof, and he takes 10% less holy damage.

And just when you thought that he had met his match, Kirito uses some hacks or something. And still ends up winning.

Is he a great character? No. But is he a powerful one? Definitely.

43. Rimuru Tempest

Rimuru Tempest from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Anime: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

If you don’t want to accept infinite scaling as an argument here, just mentally put in Milim in this spot.

But yeah, slime man/girl/person can just absorb whatever they chose and gain their power.

And when you take into account that among those absorbed was a huge dragon, their position as an undisputed leader really starts to make a lot of sense.

Plus, they can buff all of their enemies. And it’s a very significant buff. So if they’re in a party their power just goes through the roof.

42. Natsu Dragneel

Natsu Dragneel Fairy Tail anime screenshot

Anime: Fairy Tail

I feel like Natsu’s greatest strength is his position as the shounen protagonist.

It doesn’t matter what you throw at the guy, he will find a way to eat it, give a nakama speech, and burn you to a crisp.

We’ve seen how nutty his fire gets. You can get the Tanacon experience just by being in his vicinity for a split second.

And with the amount of beatings he’s gotten over the years, you really have to think whether anything is going to stop this little dragon boy.

41. Mu-Jin Park

Mu-Jin Park from The God of High School anime

Anime: The God of High School

Okay so Mori, his old man, and the Naruto knockoff could possibly overthrow Mujin for this spot, as they’ve yet to show feats on his level.

But so far we’ve seen Mujin slap an entire island(remotely might I add) and kill everyone on said island like flies.

We have also seen him manhandle Q, who’s said to be the strongest commissioner. And hold back a giant sword that was pushed by god, again remotely.

So not only is his power amazing, but just because you can’t see him doesn’t mean he can’t squash you.

40. Guts

Guts Berserk anime screenshot

Anime: Berserk

It hurts me to start the list off with Guts because I honestly think he’s the strongest, at least mentally… because odds are no other character could go through what he has and remain sane.

As far as physical feats are concerned, we’ve seen that Golden Age Guts can take out one hundred armed soldiers on his own. And after he gets the Cesar treatment, he tackles some pretty powerful demons on a semi-regular basis.

So he’s at the very least the strength of an army.

39. Tanya Degurechaff

Tanya Degurechaff from Youjo Senki

Anime: Youjo Senki

If attitude was a major stat on this list, Tanya would definitely reign way higher. Because were she ever to scream at me I would cower in fear.

Others might have not felt this way initially. But after seeing her defeat battalion after battalion by herself, they quickly learned. Very quickly.

She’s also an absolutely amazing tactician. So she could probably punch a lot higher than her weight class when it comes to power.

She isn’t destroying any planets. But she could definitely wipe out a few cities.

38. Jotaro Kujo

Jotaro Kujo from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

Anime: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders

As far as overall destructive power goes, Jotaro is definitely on the lower end on this list.

That said, his one vs one potential is superb.

This is mostly due to his stand being one of the strongest the series has seen. It has excellent attack, defense, and speed.

It’s also revealed by the end of the series that he can stop time. Which as you can guess, is a guaranteed victory most of the time.

So not the most destructive.

But if the conditions are right, he is a beast.

37. Light Yagami

Light Yagami from Death Note anime

Anime: Death Note

Light has a very unconventional power system, to say the least.

He’s virtually helpless if caught off guard. But is unstoppable if given prep time.

I’m sure you all know how the Death Note functions: by writing someone’s full name in it, securing that person’s death. You can only add quite a bit of specifications regarding to how the person will die.

Light’s kill count is definitely among the larger ones in anime. But considering that he needs info on you, I have to place him fairly low.

However, if he and Zuckerberg ever formed an alliance… he would jump up into the top 10 no doubt.

36. Edward Newgate

Edward Newgate in One Piece anime

Anime: One Piece

I mean, Whitebeard is literally known as the strongest man on Earth within the One Piece world.

So I can’t really leave him out now can I?

And he definitely deserved the title. As we have seen him take on multiple admirals, punch the water so hard a tsunami formed, and display the biggest tenacity I have seen in a while.

The man had a hole in his chest and half a face, but that did not slow him down.

On top of that, he was far from his prime when that happened. So you can imagine the absolute havoc he would have unleashed were it not for his old age and injuries.

35. Ichigo Kurosaki

Ichigo Kurosaki Bleach anime screenshot

Anime: Bleach

Scaling Ichigo is a bit of a drag as the extent of his power is a lot of “tell don’t show”.

If we go where the anime dropped off then we know he can, at the very least, destroy a city. And at most a country.

If we go with the series finale, his power is closer to being able to destroy a planet.

So either way you spin it, the boy is packing. He also has quite the speed stat, as it’s said he can move at the speed of light.

So he isn’t quite god-level unless we count in coolness points. Because man, does he always look like a badass.

34. Kuro Sakuragawa

Kuro Sakuragawa from In/Spectre anime

Anime: In/Spectre

This man has the weirdest powers in anime (or at least high up there).

Yet he can be rather average and unbeatable depending on the circumstances.

This is because his flesh is poisonous, and he’s immortal. Undead Ban levels of immortal.

So encountering anyone who bites, or those creeps who lick their sword after they cut you, he just wins.

And even if you’re smarter than that, there are still some issues. Mainly the fact that his hand to hand combat is not so shabby, and that he can see into the future.

In conclusion: destructive power at zero, but an extremely good duellist.

33. Yato

Yato in Noragami Aragoto anime

Anime: Noragami Aragoto

This list has quite a few god characters. However, Yato is definitely the weakest among them.

He still is a god. But his power fluctuates quite a bit.

In times of war when everyone prays to him, it’s implied that he could take on an entire army. Even after losing some of that power, we still see him moving at incredible speeds and taking on other gods.

So at the very least he’s gotta be around C/D tier, right?

He might not be all that strong. But at least his business is booming.

32. Yuuichirou Hyakuya

Yuuichirou Hyakuya from Owari no Seraph anime

Anime: Owari no Seraph

Base form Yuu is nothing too spectacular.

He’s a solid soldier, but nothing more than that.

Yet when he embraces his online gamer from within, he becomes a monster. He transforms into the Salt King: which heavily increases his attack, and with every swing of his sword he’s destroying a building.

Plus he can fly.

But the most important power he gains is to both turn his enemies into salt, one shotting them in the process, and controlling that salt like a makeshift Gaara.

31. Ken Kaneki

Ken Kaneki Tokyo Ghoul anime screenshot

Anime: Tokyo Ghoul

As a duellist, Kaneki is definitely a threat.

He has very solid range, a strong attack, mobility and just insane regeneration. So in his base form, it’s not a stretch to assume that he could take on an entire army and survive.

However, with the Red Wedding episode, we saw that his destructive power is far higher as he turns into a giant centipede.

In this form, he could have easily destroyed the city had he gone full bonkers.

30. Zagred

Zagred Black Cover anime

Anime: Black Clover

As far as portrayals of demons go, Zagred is definitely one of my favorites.

Just look at that face. There’s not a sliver of mercy to be seen.

And his kit is just a nightmare.

He can manifest physical items, such as swords. Or manifest magical items, usually again swords. All through simple words.

And later on, after he acquires a grimoire, he starts teleporting some nightmare goop that sucks up magic and your life force alike.

He also distorts space, copies your magic, and looks like an absolute boss while doing it. Not world-destroying but he’s an absolute pain to deal with one-on-one.

29. Tomura Shigaraki

Tomura Shigaraki from Boku no Hero Academia anime

Anime: Boku no Hero Academia

This might be a little odd, placing the villain ahead of the hero. But hear me out.

I know I called Deku’s powerups in the manga ridiculous… but Shigaraki is way more insane.

Again, I don’t want to spoil too much. But let’s just say that he can destroy entire cities on a whim.

Plus, if the story had been a little different he would have been even stronger.

So I feel like Shigaraki is overall a much bigger threat. He just happens to be weaker in a one-on-one than Deku. And if you’re wondering why all for one isn’t here, oh boy… you are in for a ride.

28. Tatsuya Shiba

Tatsuya Shiba from The Irregular at Magic High School anime

Anime: The Irregular at Magic High School

If going by attitude alone, you would really think this guy is at the very top.

He’s always so calm and collected when facing anyone and anything, that you just know he’s going to win.

In battle, he’s a brilliant tactician. He moves at ridiculous speeds and has enough power to destroy a falling satellite.

He would probably lose to a lot of people below him on this list, were that battle to run a bit long. But I doubt he would ever allow for that to happen.

27. Anri Sonohara

Anri Sonohara from Durarara! anime

Anime: Durarara!

I say Anri, but what I really mean is Saika.

This demon blade can easily allow you to take over the world if you play your cards right. And if the show had a more mature rating, I’m sure it would be more emphasized.

You literally cut someone with the blade and now they’re your slave.

You can see how quickly you could make an entire army with this method right? Plus, they’re not even just meat puppets. You can also gather a lot of info as well as letting them assimilate into society, even after becoming your minions.

26. Koro-Sensei

Koro-Sensei Assassination Classroom anime screenshot

Anime: Assassination Classroom

It’s honestly just a flex when you have to train people for months and teach them how to kill you.

If getting killed wasn’t his goal, Koro-Sensei would have been no less than a god in his world. A very goofy one, though.

With his inhumane speed, like seriously ridiculous regeneration, impenetrable defense, and even some pretty decent attacking power, this yellow god squid is no joke.

His charisma is also through the roof. But that is neither here nor there.

25. Izuku Midoriya

Izuku Midoriya from Boku no Hero Academia anime

Anime: Boku no Hero Academia

Where the anime is right now, Midoriya is extremely powerful. Where the manga is at he’s insane. And by his proclamation in the very first episode that he was going to be the number one hero, we know that in the future he’s going to be plus ultra god-tier.

One for All is just such a strong quirk. It basically scales infinitely and gives you enough strength and speed to body-slam anyone that’s in your way, while also teaching them US geography.

And if you think that All for One, or All Might or Mirio should be on this list instead… then you have no idea what tomfoolery Deku is up to in the manga.

24. Sinbad

Sinbad from Magi: Adventure of Sinbad anime

Anime: Magi: Adventure of Sinbad

In the world of Magi, capturing a Dungeon basically makes you the main character.

They’re just that powerful.

But apparently if you collect seven, you get a whole prequel series for yourself.

And man, I knew he was powerful. He is an undisputed king after all.

But the prequel really put his power into perspective. He blew up a mountain just to prove a point. The point being that going against him is a direct ticket to hell, of course.

So he’s a clever tactician, in control of a giant army, with not only multiple vessels but with each of them being ridiculous in strength. Great combo.

23. Shigeo Kageyama

Shigeo Kageyama from Mob Psycho 100 anime

Anime: Mob Psycho 100

I feel like adding “when mad” to this title.

Because if it were up to him, Mob wouldn’t hurt a fly. Then when he’s made to fight, he does alright, throws them about a few times, maybe gets hit in the nose.

But when the counter reaches 100% or glitches out… oh boy. Get all your loved ones and run.

It’s like gravity itself gets drunk as huge chunks of land start flying everywhere while colorful explosions take over the sky.

God forbid Mob every truly decides to murder someone(or everyone) because I am pretty sure that he could do so with no difficulty.

22. Escanor

Escanor Seven Deadly Sins anime screenshot

Anime: Seven Deadly Sins

For once I’m going to pretend like the manga doesn’t exist. Because I will be darned if I don’t put mustache man on here.

He’s the ultimate Chad. He said he was the strongest there is, next to the Commandment of truth and nothing happened.

A man murders his friend and he can only pity the bastard for being so weak while doing it.

And as far as feats go, I’m pretty sure that summoning miniature suns that evaporate lakes and take down the Commandments is a pretty significant one.

And although it was shot at like 5 fps, he did go toe to toe with Meliodas.

21. Ainz Ooal Gown

Ainz Ooal Gown from Overlord anime

Anime: Overlord

I mean, it’s not even fair to compare Ainz to the rest of the characters in his world.

It’s like Faker went against some beginner bots.

With how ridiculous his magic is, Ainz can easily blow away entire armies. And then summon his own armies of terrible CGI, making it all that more frightening.

The second strongest character in his entire world is himself, but in disguise. That’s how far above he is.

Okay, Shalltear did give him some trouble. But luckily he also has the power of metagaming the hell out of every fight.

20. Alucard

Alucard Hellsing Ultimate anime screenshot

Anime: Hellsing Ultimate

Alucard is just pure nightmare fuel.

He can seemingly beat just about anyone. And the only times he looks like he’s having trouble, he’s just messing around.

Mind you, this is against foes whose sole purpose is to defeat creatures like him.

So imagine if your average warrior went head to head with this Satan spawn as he unlashes darkness all around and limbs start flying about.

I’m not sure where his ceiling cap is. But if I had to take a guess, I would say it would bump him up by at least a few spots.

19. Yuu Otosaka

Yuu Otosaka from Charlotte anime

Anime: Charlotte

I have to go deep into spoilers to justify this one, so brace yourself or skip ahead.

Early game Yuu is nearly useless. I mean sure he can beat up some thugs, but that’s about it, as he takes control over your body for a few seconds while his own flops to the floor.

However we later learn that if you happen to have any power whatsoever, Yuu can not only use it while in your body, but it’s also no longer your power. He has it. He has hundreds or thousands of them, and he can use them however he pleases.

So in the long run he basically scales infinitely and all it cost him was his sanity. A fair trade-off.

18. Haruhi Suzumiya

Haruhi Suzumiya from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime

Anime: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Bet you didn’t see this one coming, now did you?

Although this is somewhat of a troll pick, I still think it has merit.

I mean, she is a literal god after all. The entire plot of the show is people running on eggshells around her so she doesn’t get cranky and just destroy reality.

True, she is not aware of her power. And only throws hands to gain some tsundere points.

But her absolute power makes her deserve to at least be on this list.

17. Altair

Altair from Re:Creators anime

Anime: Re:Creators

The thing with Altair is that she’s extremely difficult to scale.

In the world of Re:Creators, fictional characters start popping up in the real world. Altair is the one who made this happen, alongside going to other fictional worlds and offing their characters.

She then proceeded to demonstrate that she’s technically capable of anything, as long as a Reddit post claiming she has this power gets one karma.

She has erased people’s existence, flipped damage inflicted to her onto her enemies, thrown giant mechs with one hand, she’s done a lot.

So technically all-powerful, but even if we stick to just what we have seen her do, she is still in a higher tier.

16. Kusuo Saiki

Kusuo Saiki from The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. anime

Anime: The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

This might be an odd one, as it is a comedy series.

But I think Saiki could kick some serious ass if he ever had to.

He constantly has to suppress his powers because if he just left them alone, he would probably rip a hole in the Earth or something.

Whether it be teleportation, flight, changing his form, reading your thoughts, it’s all as easy as one two three to this guy. Granted, we have never seen him attempting to hurt someone.

But judging from what he has done, he could probably just squish your heart with a single glare and be done with it.

15. Madara Uchiha

Madara Uchiha in Naruto Shippuden anime

Anime: Naruto Shippuden

You read that right, I’m picking this Uchiha over Sasuke.

Mostly because his introduction was the rawest display of power I have seen in a while.

Not only does he manhandle the 5 kage, but he also takes their entire army apart with just taijutsu.

And then he drops a meteor on the battlefield, followed by another meteor. The madlad looked the kage in the eye and asked whether they wanted his clones to use Susanoo or not.

So even though he got taken out and adult Sasuke is around his level, I just have to give it to Madara.

14. Gon Freecss

Gon Freecss from Hunter x Hunter (2011) anime

Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

I honestly wouldn’t have included Gon were it not for one sentence.

Major spoiler warning:

Once he released all his nen and went into his adult form, Neferpitou actually sees him as a threat to the king. I’m going to ruin the surprise here, but the king is also on this list, and quite high.

So the fact that Gon scales to that monster already gives him a spot.

Plus, we have seen the collateral damage he’s capable of when he’s truly adamant about murdering someone.

13. Tatsumaki

Tatsumaki from One Punch Man anime

Anime: One Punch Man

If it were not for our bald friend, I’m sure Tatsumi would take the role of the main hero.

At least with what the anime has covered.

She has the average psychokinesis kit, but taken to a ridiculous level. She can pull asteroids out of space and throw them at her enemies, or she can just pick you up and chuck you into space.

Her attack range is pretty solid, covering as far as the eye can see. And she has both great mobility and defense.

And if we’re being honest, she definitely would not have struggled against that mosquito.

12. Ryou Asuka

Ryou Asuka Devilman Crybaby anime screenshot

Anime: Devilman Crybaby

Major spoilers again folks. Skip ahead as needed.

I put down Ryou’s name, but it should have just said Satan. Because that’s who Ryou is.

And when fully revived he gets some ridiculous power. He literally cut the moon in half with a single attack.

His clash with Akira made explosions visible from space.

But even then, he was never seriously damaged while Akira relied on the other demons to substitute his missing limbs.

So not a full-fledged god in the sense of destroying universes. But he could definitely destroy a planet with little difficulty.

11. Ross

Ross Senyuu anime screenshot

Anime: Senyuu

Okay, if you haven’t watched this very short comedy I want to set the scene for you.

A party of two plus an adorable Demon Princess are all trying to stop the awakening of the demon king. But newsflash, one of the adventurers(Ross) is a legendary warrior and is basically all-powerful.

I mean, he teleported to the demon king and just slapped him like the dude owed him money.

Said demon king was supposedly going to take over Earth, mind you.

I can’t place him too high though, as he doesn’t show off too much of his power. But he is definitely strong.

10. Naruto Uzumaki

Naruto Uzumaki in Naruto: Shippuden anime

Anime: Naruto: Shippuden

I mean, you have to hand it to him. He really did become the strongest ninja.

Even though he only has a few jutsu, each is so stupidly powerful that he had to carry the entire Ninja Alliance in the war arc.

His speed is ridiculous as he dodges lasers point-blank. His strength is ridiculous as he can punch you into a new dimension.

He’s a one man army with his shadow clones, his Rasengan is both AoE, close range, long-range, and can kill immortal beings… and all of this is not even getting into Kurama.

He’s just ridiculous by the time Shippuden closes out. And if you dare argue that Sasuke is just as strong I will look at you through this computer screen with digital disappointment.

9. Meruem

Meruem from Hunter x Hunter (2011) anime

Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

We’ve seen the perfect life form trope quite a few times in anime.

But I think Meruem was definitely the most believable in that regard.

The second he came out of the womb he could already one-shot any living thing in his vicinity. But the thing is, he has more to offer than just ridiculous strength.

He’s a bloody genius, surpassing the smartest humans in mere hours. And is virtually indestructible unless you seriously break the Geneva convention.

And even on top of that, just imagine if the dude learned how to use Nen! He would definitely rule the world without breaking a sweat.

8. Simon

Simon Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime screenshot

Anime: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

On his own, Simon would get bodied by everyone on this list. He is just a normal dude, after all.

But because of his spiral power, the amount of mech tomfoolery he’s capable of doing shoots him pretty high up this list.

For heaven’s sake (and yea more spoiler alerts here) by the end of the series he was throwing galaxies around like it was nothing.

Sure, he also had his crew with him. And many emotional speeches had to be made prior.

But the fact still stands that he could, at the very least, destroy Earth if he chose.

7. Tetsuo Shima

Tetsuo Shima Akira anime screenshot

Anime: Akira

You definitely wouldn’t assume this guy was this far up by looking at his picture.

Then again, I feel like that’s a rule of thumb when it comes to psychics.

Shima’s psychic power grows to such extremes that even casually throwing hands results in massive damage to the surrounding area. And by the end of the movie, he nearly wipes out the entire universe just by releasing all his power at once.

But that’s not all… after he’s teleported to a different dimension, said explosion creates a whole universe. Now that is some god-level power right there.

6. Nanika

Nanika from Hunter x Hunter (2011) anime

Anime: Hunter x Hunter (2011)

I hate to do my boy Meruem like this. But even though he’s powerful and excellent in combat, Nanika is basically a deity, as she’s a calamity that comes from the Dark Continent.

So theoretically she can just murder him if someone makes that wish.

And after making that wish she would probably kill half the people on earth.

I doubt she would win a fistfight. But the fact that she can wipe out millions of people if she just finds one greedy bastard who’s willing to wish for it makes her a planetary threat.

5. Wang Ling

Wang Ling The Daily Life of the Immortal King anime screenshot

Anime: The Daily Life of the Immortal King

Anime purists, avert your eyes. As this is a Chinese anime.

To the rest of you, let me introduce this monster of a man.

Wang is probably most comparable to Saiki K. as he just wants to live an average life and hide his earth-shattering power.

He has saved the planet multiple times with no effort, and is seemingly all-powerful. As proof of his greatness, all of his spells start with “great”. And the man unironically has “enlightened iPad” and “enlightened toilet” under his equipment.

4. Anos Voldigoad

Anos Voldigoad from The Misfit of Demon King Academy anime

Anime: The Misfit of Demon King Academy

This guy is honestly the equivalent to vivid dreaming, because it seems like nothing is outside the realm of possibility when it comes to his power.

In a move that has to be the biggest flex in anime history, he nearly killed a person just through the beat of his heart.

That’s right. His heart made shockwaves strong enough to pierce a full set of armor and drop his enemy to his knees. So as a demon king he’s definitely god-level in every way, shape, and form.

3. Saitama

Saitama from One Punch Man anime

Anime: One Punch Man

This man’s lore is literally this list.

His entire character arc is curing boredom because he one-shots everything he punches. I mean, I say punch… but to him it’s more like pointing his hand in the general direction of his enemies.

Even when getting pelted to the Moon, Saitama can’t even break a sweat. Or God forbid fight seriously.

An argument can be made that he is (and always will be) number one on these lists, just because of the way he’s written.

Yet because of his lack of feats, at least feats that compare to numbers one and two… he will have to be satisfied with third place for now.

2. Son Gokuu

Son Gokuu Dragon Ball Super anime screenshot

Anime: Dragon Ball Super

We all knew this was coming.

The man, the myth, the legend, mister Kakarot himself.

There isn’t much to say on this guy, as I think we all know how nutty he has become. From being the strongest on Earth to possessing the power to destroy entire worlds, galaxies, maybe dimensions, who knows.

With every new installment he seems to get a new color in his arsenal, and strays further from God in terms of power.

So even though Saitama might be stronger lore-wise, Goku has just shown way too many feats not to put him above our lovable capped bald spot.

1. Zeno

Zeno from Dragon Ball Super anime

Anime: Dragon Ball Super

Throughout this list I’ve used the word “god” quite freely. But this weird lemon-looking dude is an actual god.

He does not have to fight you. He can just wipe you out of existence.

He can wipe your entire planet out of existence.

And if he’s feeling cranky he can wipe your universe out of existence.

There’s no real nuance to him. He just wants something to go away and it does, every single time without fail. So all the martial arts, capes, and punches aren’t going to do much about him.

35 Of The Strongest Anime Characters, Officially Ranked

Anime is pretty great by itself and talking with other anime fans in digital or physical spaces can greatly enhance the experience. Some of the longest-running conversations in the anime fandom center on which characters are stronger than other characters, or who would win in a fight. These debates are likely to go on for as long as new anime air every season.

While anime can tell a broad range of stories and the affordances of animation allow anime to tackle just about every genre of fiction, combat-focused anime (usually in the shonen category) tend to be some of the most popular and commercially successful anime around. With so much combat-focused content in anime, it’s no surprise that debates about which character is stronger than another are a staple of the fandom. Of course, this conversation is always in flux since there’s more anime airing than ever before and everyone’s favorite protagonists get stronger all the time.

RELATED: 10 Absolutely Hilarious Anime Memes

It may be impossible to say for sure who would win in a one-on-one fight, but the strongest characters in anime can be ranked when they are at their strongest and most capable. These characters are by far some of the strongest in all of anime.

Updated on April 11th, 2021 by Amanda Bruce: The world of anime continues to grow every year. With the increasing popularity of western anime series and the development of new fictional mythologies, there are always more heroes and villains coming to the screen. While some anime characters get their start on the pages of a manga, others come to the screen without audiences knowing anything about their journey. The strongest of anime characters see a mixture of both varieties. Some of the strongest characters in anime have bold power sets, while others are physically strong, and still, others find their strength in their emotions. These different approaches to heroes and villains create a vast array of the strongest anime characters.

35 Light Yagami - Death Note

Light Yagami, the protagonist of the dramatic and suspenseful Death Note anime, would get smoked in a heartbeat if he fought any of these other anime characters in a direct fight. However, he doesn’t really have to fight anyone directly.

His genius intellect and utilization of the lethal Death Note allow him to destroy anyone in any way he desires so long as he knows their full name. Light ends countless people effortlessly in Death Note and defeats nearly everyone who tries to uncover his diabolical plot. With these abilities, Light can defeat nearly any other anime character in existence.

34 Ruby Rose - RWBY

One of the newest anime characters thanks to Rooster Teeth's popular series, some might argue Ruby Rose isn't even the strongest character in her own series. That honor might belong to Salem - at first.

Ruby Rose has her own version of super speed, she's skilled with a scythe, and she's got magical silver eyes that can stop her enemies in their tracks. She might not have the magic that the series villain Salem has, but she has something Salem doesn't: room to grow. Even several volumes into the series, Ruby is still learning how to pull off impossible feats, making her a truly formidable opponent whether she's taking on Grimm or other Huntsmen.

33 Kenshiro - Fist of the North Star

Master of the Hokuto Shinken, Kenshiro wonders a post-apocalyptic world and fights against those who abuse the weak and defenseless. He possesses incredible strength, a ridiculously honed battle sense, and the ability to end any opponent if he strikes the correct pressure points.

While he has quite a bit less of a character arc than the other entries and doesn’t get much stronger over the course of his series, Kenshiro is still a devastating opponent who can defeat any foe if they let their guard down for even a moment.

32 Guts - Berserk

The Black Swordsman, Guts is a powerful warrior who manages to end impossibly powerful demons with his massive Dragon Slayer sword, prosthetic arm containing a hidden cannon, and pain suppressing armor.

While his exploits are best viewed in the Berserk manga than in the anime, Guts slays demons like a man possessed and even manages to butcher gods during his quest to take down his former comrade Griffith. Although he has no mystical powers, he stands at the absolute peak of humanity and could emerge victorious from nearly any battle against even the most powerful foes.

31 Baki Hanma - Baki the Grappler

Baki Hanma is a ridiculously muscular teenage boy with the sole goal of defeating his father, and the world’s strongest living creature, Yujiro Hanma. Baki constantly trains his body by placing himself in dangerous situations.

He defeats countless masters of various fighting styles; including the prehistoric Pickle, a caveman who could take down any dinosaur and survived to the modern age while frozen in a glacier. Baki’s immense strength comes entirely from honing and disciplining both his body and fighting technique, making him one of the most formidable martial artists in all of anime.

30 Edward Elric - Fullmetal Alchemist

A young man who gained a natural command over alchemy after tragically losing his right arm and left leg while trying to bring his mother back to life, Edward Elric is extremely powerful. He can alter the terrain of any battlefield with his alchemy skills, and transform nearly any substance into a weapon to complement his versatile fighting style.

His abilities all him to go toe to toe against homunculi and even beat a god-like figure into oblivion. Although he relinquishes his powers at the end of Fullmetal Alchemist, at his peak Edward could best just about any other anime character.

29 Sakura Kinomoto - Cardcaptor Sakura

It might seem unlikely that a ten-year-old girl could go up against any of the strong warriors in anime, but Sakura is a whole lot stronger than she looks. After accidentally releasing a deck of magical cards into the world, Sakura is tasked with recapturing them, and she becomes a sorcerer in her own right.

RELATED: 6 Magical Girl Anime That Need A Live-Action Adaptation (& 4 That Don't)

In fact, in the sequel Clear Card series, Sakura's own magic is so great that she rewrites the cards over the course of the series. She can use the magic inside of her to augment the cards, make them stronger, or create her own. The use of the cards allow her the power of flight, super strength, speed, and more. She is, however, still one of the youngest Magical Girls in anime, ensuring that she lacks the same ruthlessness of some of her older counterparts.

28 Akame - Akame Ga Kill

The titular character of the series, Akame spends most of her life training to be a ruthless assassin. She might have better hand-to-hand combat skills than most anime characters in general, but that isn't enough to land her amongst the strongest.

Akame's speed and reflexes are so great that her enemies can barely touch her in a fight. In fact, only one person ever actually lands a direct hit in the original manga series. If all of that weren't enough, Akame also carries a magical poisoned blade that kills anyone she strikes.

27 Inuyasha - InuYasha

The half-demon Inuyasha is a warrior from feudal Japan who can slay any opponent who gets in his way, whether they are human or demon. The son of the most powerful demon in the world, Inuyasha is the most powerful half-demon and his strength only grows over the course of the anime as he gains new mystical transformations and techniques for his shape-shifting sword.

His skill in battle is almost unrivaled and with the ability to absorb the energy of his opponent and turn it against them, he and his mystical blade are an almost unstoppable force.

26 Akira Fudo - Devilman

Akira Fudo, the protagonist of numerous Devilman anime and other works by Go Nagai, gains the power to transform into the powerful Devilman after conquering a demon spirit that tries to possess his body.

Gaining the strength and speed to take on the fallen angel Satan and his apocalyptic forces, Akira is humanity’s last hope as long-hidden demons begin to rise up. Although his efforts proved futile in the end, Akira’s power is undeniable and he obliterates even the strongest of demons with ease as he tries to save the world.

25 Natsu Dragneel - Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail mage and fire dragon slayer, Natsu Dragneel is a monstrously powerful wizard. He learned his versatile magic from his adoptive dragon father, Igneel, and is able to push his body past his natural limits by consuming material embedded with magic.

When he enters this ‘Dragon Slayer Mode’ he can defeat immortal and apocalyptic beings like the Black Mage Zeref. Fighting primarily with flame-enhanced melee attacks and the occasional blast of fire breath, Natsu is famous for destroying anyone who challenges him or his guild and destroying anything in the vicinity of his brawl.

24 Yusuke Urameshi - Yu Yu Hakusho

Spirit Detective Yusuke Urameshi starts off as a delinquent who passes in a car accident and by the end of Yu Yu Hakusho becomes a nigh-unstoppable half-demon who is feared by demons all across the spirit world.

His spirit gun can destroy landscapes miles long and mortally wound even the highest class of demons. Furthermore, his mastery of the Spirit Shotgun and the Spirit Wave technique makes him a versatile fighter capable of dealing with any opponent, regardless of their fighting style. Growing both as a person and a fighter over the course of Yu Yu Hakusho, Yusuke is both a terrific character and combatant.

23 Usagi Tsukino - Sailor Moon

Usagi Tsukino is one of the most powerful Magical Girls to exist in manga or anime. She begins her series as a young woman afraid of her own shadow who literally uses her own crying to combat her enemy. Over time, she becomes a force to be reckoned with, on par with some of the goddesses in other series.

Usagi, however, doesn't have all of this power on her own. As Sailor Moon, her strength is buoyed by her team of Sailor Senshi. They do most of the work for her in a fight while she lands the finishing blow. She often draws on the strength of her friends and their love for her to be able to save the world. It's her compassion and humanity that help her come out on top.

22 Big Mom - One Piece

Though her real name is Charlotte Linlin, she goes by Big Mom as the leader of the Big Mom Pirates. She is all about control.

RELATED: One Piece: Top 10 Episodes Of The First 130, According To IMDb

Big Mom uses the Soru Soru no Mi Devil Fruit to maintain that control. With it, she can manipulate pretty nearly anything - living or dead - by transferring the soul of a human into it. While this means the human whose soul she uses loses some of their life force, it also means she has even more control over her creations. One of her creations even manipulates the weather for her.

21 Korosensei - Assassination Classroom

An experiment gone awry, Korosensei is a usually yellow squid man with nearly unmatched speed and destructive power. He can easily avoid gunfire, outfly a fighter jet, and is able to punch a hole through the moon.

He takes the entire world hostage and threatens to destroy it unless a group of troubled children are able to end him before the end of an academic year. With a keen intellect, inhuman abilities, and a body with more tricks than tentacles; Korosensei is able to obliterate nearly any opponent if he so chooses.

20 Meliodas - The Seven Deadly Sins

The Dragon’s Sin of Wrath, Meliodas is the son of the Demon King and is as strong as he is durable. Possessing monstrous strength, command over the flames of hell, the ability to reflect any magic, and a cursed immortality; Meliodas is perhaps the strongest character in The Seven Deadly Sins and anime in general.

While his small stature and cute appearance might imply a lack of physical prowess, he actually holds an incredible demonic strength.

19 Erza Scarlet - Fairy Tail

Like many of the strongest anime characters, Erza Scarlet is incredibly skilled in a fight. Unlike some of her fellow anime characters, however, Erza is able to add to her skill set with the help of magic.

She can literally swap out weapons and armor in the heat of battle in seemingly the blink of an eye. Considering she's an expert with most weapons–and has access to more than 200 swords–that's quite the magical skill to have. She's also telekinetic and can imbue her swords with magic, giving her an edge over her enemies, though she never thinks of herself as the strongest fighter.

18 Ken Kaneki - Tokyo Ghoul

Over the course of Tokyo Ghoul, Ken Kaneki goes from a timid bookworm to a figure of worship known as the One-Eyed King. After transforming into a half Ghoul and training his body, he’s able to destroy entire cities easily and command legions of monstrous beasts that can transform others into Ghouls.

In exchange for only being able to consume coffee and human flesh, Kaneki gained superhuman strength and the ability to regenerate limbs and even his entire body. This makes him a borderline undefeatable fighter who only grows stronger with each injury he sustains.

17 Ichigo Kurosaki - Bleach

This oranged-haired Shinigami has a broad, and sometimes confusing, set of powers that allow him to defeat even the most overpowered of foes. His strength and swordsmanship allow him to take down all-powerful deities and reality-bending gods while he gains new powers from each set of foes he defeats.

His ability to adapt to new opponents is almost unrivaled and he best nearly any foe with a combination of his keen intellect and lethal energy slashes. Even if fans were never able to see the full extent of his abilities in Bleach, Ichigo is undoubtedly one of the strongest characters in anime.

16 Tatsumaki - One Punch Man

Tatsumaki is one of the few anime characters here who doesn't actually need to have great hand-to-hand combat skills. Her power comes from her psychic abilities. She's called the Tornado of Terror as a result of what she can do.

Tatsumaki is able to create a psychic whirlwind that can deflect multiple opponents at once, but that's not all she can do. She can also create psychic barriers to protect herself and others as well as control the Chi of other people. That means she can inflict serious pain without even having to touch them. Of course, she can also use her psychic abilities to pick things up and move them without touching them. She barely has to lift a finger in a fight.

15 Naruto Uzumaki - Naruto

Everyone's favorite loudmouth ninja, Naruto can go toe to toe with nearly any other character in anime. His ability to enter Sage Mode and his control over the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox grant him impossible strength and the ability to form massive monsters out of chakra.

RELATED: 10 Naruto Filler Episodes That Don't Deserve The Hate

Furthermore, his relationship to the other tailed beasts lets him wield every element of chakra and even combine them for greater devastation. Even without these abilities, he can still create an army of clones that allow him to overpower any foe that tries to fight him or do harm to his friends.

14 Alucard - Hellsing Ultimate

The mythic Dracula goes by the name Alucard in Hellsing Ultimate and he does the legendary figure justice. Functionally immortal at the beginning of the series due to the number of souls inside of him, and then literally immortal by the end of it, Alucard cannot be ended.

His dual pistols are also essentially cannons and he is able to summon the souls of those he’s eaten to form an army of servants. As if those aren’t enough, Alucard has an army of demon dogs at the ready that can tear nearly any enemy it shreds in an extremely painful instant.

13 Lucy - Elfen Lied

Though dissociative identity disorder means "Lucy" has many voices that make up her character, Lucy tends to be the strongest of the bunch. It's Lucy who most often utilizes the character's numerous abilities.

In addition to being a deft fighter and a near-perfect marksman, Lucy has telekinetic abilities most often seen through her psychic "vectors." These vectors are like invisible arms she can use to extend her reach and power. At her strongest, Lucy's vectors are able to be used to sink landmasses the size of small countries. She could, conceivably, destroy the whole world.

12 Isaac Netero - Hunter x Hunter

The former chairman of the Hunter Association, Isaac Netero is one of the strongest martial artists in anime. After subjecting himself to training that was supposed to end him, Netero gained incomprehensible speed and strength.

If those ever fail him, though, he is also able to summon a massive karate god that can destroy nearly anything and stop the most durable foes in their tracks. He will see victory even in his passing, though, as he has a small but lethal bomb implanted in his chest that will obliterate whoever manages to end him and poison anyone who manages to survive the blast.

11 Eren Yeager - Attack on Titan

The titan shifter Eren Yeager is a very powerful anime character who has the ability to transform into a 15 meter tall Titan with incredible regenerative abilities. However, the reason he’s so high up on this list is because of his ability to command legions of Titans with the power of the Founding Titan inside of him.

RELATED: Attack On Titan: The Main Characters, Ranked By Intelligence

Using this ability, he can bring entire nations to ruin with a simple command that brings thousands of 50-meter tall Titans to action. Entire armies could not stand against this ability, and that makes Eren one of the strongest characters in anime.

10 The Avatar - Avatar: The Last Airbender And The Legend Of Korra

Quite possibly the most popular western anime of the last 20 years, Avatar: The Last Airbender introduced audiences to a character who could wield the power of all four elements and communicate with the spirit world. While in most anime the hero can control one of the elements, Aang got to utilize all of them.

It's hard to consider Aang as the strongest, however, since Korra is able to come back from not being able to use her abilities at all and Kyoshi creates her own island. Each Avatar has the same abilities as the others, but their strengths are all suited to different tasks.

9 Mob - Mob Psycho 100

Kageyama Shigo, or more commonly known as Mob, is an ultra-powerful esper who can destroy anyone or thing with a simple thought. His powers are so intense that he has to shackle his emotions to keep them from running wild.

However, if he feels something too strongly or falls unconscious, his abilities come rushing to the surface, and wields powers on par with large-scale natural disasters. Not only does the nature of his abilities make them impossible to guard against, but the strength behind them is also so great that even the strongest psychic buckle beneath them.

8 Jotaro Kujo - JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Jotaro Kujo is the main protagonist of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, and one of the strongest characters in anime. He’s as smart as he is tough and able to discern and counter the abilities of anyone who tries to fight him.

His standability, Star Platinum, allows him to stop time and strike his enemies with impossibly powerful blows both within and outside of frozen time. There’s no way to defend against this technique and it’s powerful enough to mortally wound anyone who stands against him.

7 Simon - Gurren Lagann

Simon is a simple earthling who incorporates spiral power into the attacks of his giant mech for devastating results. Commanding a mech so large it spans galaxies, Simon can create a drill with the ability to rip reality apart and destroy literally anyone or thing that stands in his way.

With a nearly god-like command over life and the afterlife, as well as reality itself, this metaphysics bending warrior is nearly unstoppable and can obliterate the universe itself if he chose to. Only beings with the ability to destroy entire universes can hope to stand a chance against him.

6 Son Goku - Dragon Ball Super

The strongest martial artist in all of anime, Goku is the strongest fighter in his own universe and all of the other universes in Dragon Ball.

With his newly acquired Ultra Instinct form, he can beat any fighter so long as he is able to tap into that power. Even outside of this form, though, if he clashes with strong enough foes for long enough he runs the risk of destroying an entire universe as collateral damage. With these impressive abilities, it’s hard to believe that his story started with him as a young, monkey-tailed boy living alone in the woods.

5 Kaguya Otsutsuki - Naruto

Known as the Rabbit Goddess, Kaguya is one of the most powerful villains in the Naruto franchise, not to mention the most powerful woman in anime. Not originally from Earth, Kaguya travels to the planet in order to take the fruit of the God Tree. Her plan was to unite people by making them fear her, which definitely works.

It's not hard to imagine people, even Naruto's powerful shinobi, afraid of a being who can read minds, manipulate memories, travel through space, and control the elements. Once she partakes of the God Tree's fruit, she's also able to heal her own injuries, making her nearly indestructible.

4 Tetsuo Shima - Akira

Tetsuo Shima, the de facto antagonist of Akira, awakens his immeasurable psychic powers after a collision with another psychic. His powers quickly grow in strength and before long he runs the risk of obliterating the entire universe.

Thankfully, before that can happen, he warps himself to a place outside of reality and the force of his psychic explosion gives birth to a whole new universe. Few other anime characters possess the ability to both create and destroy reality, and that’s what makes Tetsuo one of the strongest characters in the medium.

3 Kyubey - Madoka Magica

Kyubey from Madoka Magica is the personification of entropy or the heat ending of the universe. He is omnipotent, immortal, and lives only to bring all of existence to ruin. Although he is not particularly strong himself, he manipulates people and reality into continuing the cycle of destruction that inevitably leads to the erasure of all matter in existence.

If something exists, Kyubey will destroy it eventually and there is virtually no way to escape his destructive force. Quite simply, his power is oblivion and there are only a few anime characters that hope to stand a chance against this overwhelming power.

2 Zeno - Dragon Ball Super

Zeno is the ruler of every reality in Dragon Ball Super and he can both create and destroy all of existence in a single instance. The child-like god possesses absolute power and can erase anyone and thing on a whim. He doesn’t have any techniques or special moves, he is simply an all-powerful god that commands space and time with youthful abandon.

He’s destroyed numerous realities for his own entertainment and plays with galaxies as though they were marbles. There is no way to stand against this god and only a single other anime character has a chance of beating this god in a fight.

1 Saitama - One Punch Man

Saitama from One Punch Man is the strongest character in anime. One Punch Man is different from most other combat anime, in that the protagonist is already the strongest person around, rather than striving to reach that goal. After three years of rigorous training, he can withstand any blow and defeat any enemy with a single serious strike.

However, this unbeatable strength leaves Sitama depressed, and the series explores the emptiness that follows achieving a lifelong goal. Saitama is the most powerful character in anime because the entire point of the character is that the pursuit of strength or one’s goal is more fulfilling than holding such a position.
