Small Business Review: The Wizarding Trunk

My love for Harry Potter is well-known and well-established on this blog. I make no secret of it and have written so many blog posts about Harry Potter that I think my status as a dedicated Potterhead is obvious. So it should be no surprise that my next small business review is a Harry Potter subscription box!

I first heard about The Wizarding Trunk through two of my favorite Harry Potter YouTubers, Cherry Wallis and Peter a.k.a. The Potter Collector. I watched them unbox every box and each box had so many amazing magical items in them! It took me a long time to finally subscribe to them because with a subscription box you always run the risk of getting items that aren’t to your taste (which has definitely happened to me). So at first I just purchased two items from them, a glass blown necklace of Mad-Eye Moody’s magical eye, which was from a past box and a koala patronus pin with the proceeds going to the Wild Life Warriors World Wide because of the devastating fires that happened in Australia. Well after receiving the pin and the necklace, I decided to subscribe to The Wizarding Trunk myself, especially after finding out their next theme was going to be magical lessons! As a proud Ravenclaw and possible eternal scholar (I love learning), I was so excited to see what items would be in each box! The first lessons box was Herbology and Ancient Runes, and it was amazing! I won’t be showing everything I got in the box because I no longer have every item (I sold some of the ones I didn’t like) and I’ve also received more boxes since then, so I will just be showing off some of my favorite items I’ve received from some of the boxes.

Herbology T-Shirt (From the first lesson box, Herbology & Ancient Runes)

Herbology is one of my favorite subjects. So when I opened the box and saw this shirt, I was immediately in love. It is one of my favorite/most worn t-shirts because it’s so comfortable! Another item I got from this box (not photographed, but still worth mentioning) is the Herbology face mask! It’s one of my favorite face masks despite being yellow. Recently in their Charms and Muggle Studies box I got another t-shirt that I absolutely love and have worn quite a bit since I received it (not photographed because it’s currently in the laundry).

Eihwaz Defensive hand Sanitizer Spray (From the first lesson box, Herbology & Ancient Runes)

Not only is this item practical for the times we’re living in, but it smells amazing! It smells like Lavender and Sage (which is my favorite scent combination) and leaves your hands feeling clean without feeling sticky afterwards. I try to use it sparingly because I don’t want to run out of it!

Transfiguration Print (From the second lesson box Transfiguration, Apparition, & Flying)and Niffler Print (From the third lesson box Care of Magical Creatures & Arithmancy)

The Wizarding Trunk has some of the best prints I’ve ever seen and this one is no exception. If you remember the scene in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets where they’re learning to turn animals into water goblets, you’ll see this on the blackboard behind Professor McGonagall. This print is amazing and is hanging over my desk. Honestly, I’m kind of obsessed with the prints The Wizarding Trunk has and I even purchased one from a past box that is also currently hanging on my wall!

Above is another print from the Care of Magical Creatures & Arithmancy box that is wooden and I absolutely love as well. They didn’t call it a Niffler in the description (probably due to copyright), but it’s a Niffler and a very cute Niffler at that. I’m debating whether to hang this print up with the others or if I should put in on my Niffler shelf. Decisions, decisions…

Pumpkin Juice Bottle & Pumpkin Juice Candle (From the All Hallow’s Eve Special Edition Box)

When The Wizarding Trunk announced they were doing a Halloween themed box, I immediately went onto their site and ordered one. Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I had no doubt this box would amazing. I was right- It is by far in my top three favorite boxes I’ve received from them. In the box were these two amazing items- A replica Pumpkin Juice bottle and a Pumpkin Juice candle. I have always wanted a Pumpkin Juice bottle and I even bought some to try at Universal Studios the one time. To sum it up in a few short words- Pumpkin Juice tastes like Fall in a bottle and it it delicious. But I recycled the bottle, forgetting to keep it… and then every time I went to Universal Studios I forgot to buy another one. But now I don’t have to worry about that because I have this beautiful glass replica bottle! The candle is also in a glass container and smells like Fall in a bottle as well. I’m not sure I’ll ever burn it, but doesn’t it look so good next to the bigger bottle?

Death Eater Mask (From the All Hallow’s Eve Special Edition Box)

Another amazing item from the Halloween themed box and I love it! Though I wouldn’t consider myself a Death Eater, the Death Eater aesthetic is definitely my vibe, so when I saw this mask I was so excited! I plan on eventually doing a Dark Arts themed shelf, so this will be perfect for that. Sadly, it’s no wearable, but I saw The Potter Collector glue some ribbon onto the sides of it so it would be wearable, so I fully intend to do that! I just can’t wear it over my glasses when I do, so maybe it’s time to switch to contact lenses! But isn’t it a stunning piece?

Flesh Eating Slug Repellant Plant Mister (From the third lesson box Care of Magical Creatures & Arithmancy)

This is one of the most practical items I’ve received in one of my boxes and I love it! I keep it on my desk and use it to water the plant you see in the background (a red vein plant which I’ve named Mr. Vein). It’s well-made, practical, and super cute! Honestly, it’s probably my most used product from one of these subscription boxes (the shirts and hand sanitizer would be the other most used).

So there you have it- A look at The Wizarding Trunk! One of my favorite things about this subscription box is that all the items in their boxes are either made in house or are from other small businesses/creators. So everything is handmade, high quality, and gets the work of small businesses/creators out there. So if you love Harry Potter and want awesome products, I would highly recommend trying out The Wizarding Trunk. You can find out more about The Wizarding Trunk at their website https://www.thewizardingtrunk.com or follow them on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/thewizardingtrunk/ The next box is Potions & Astronomy, which I am incredibly excited for because Potions is my absolute favorite subject! So if you would like me to do a post about this box specifically, let me know!

What was your favorite item out of the ones I showed? Would you consider getting a subscription to The Wizarding Trunk? Or are there any subscription boxes you subscribe to? I would love to know! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

The Magical Lessons themed box is my first purchase from The Wizarding Trunk. The theme of this box is Transfiguration, Flying, and Apparition based around the Harry Potter series. The box is the second in the series focusing on lessons from Hogwarts.

I was a little disappointed my box did not come with the letter/cheat sheet. I love to read the information guide to figure out precisely what is in the box. Sometimes, my guessing is a little off.

But I loved the email sent to me with the tracking information. My owl’s name was Fred. So I raise my glass of Butterbeer to Fred for safely delivering my package.

Transfiguration, Flying, and Apparition

I must give high marks to the creative people behind this box.

  1. Dittany Potion: Essence of Dittany Potion bottle is a perfect addition to my shelf. I loved the intricate design of the wax seal, the old-style label, and the overall display of the leaves.
  2. Transfiguration Book Cover: The book covers fit the U.S. versions of the Harry Potter Series. The cover was created by Danny at Wizardry Workshop. The design and foiling of the book cover are absolutely beautiful.
  3. Ron’s Rat Goblet Pin: In the series, Ron’s wand is broken. When he attempts to turn the rat into a water goblet, the outcome is hilarious. The pin represents this moment in the series.
  4. Wizarding Travel Woodmark: The bookmark features your own License for Independent Wizard Travel.  The bookmark came in a purple envelope with a wax seal on the back.
  5. Reusable Coffee Sleeve: I am not a big coffee drinker. I do drink tea. I am sure this will be a perfect fit for my travel mug.
  6. Transfiguration Lessons VII Print: The print, created by J.P. Misslecrow, is one of my favorites. I love the overall design. The print looks like it came out of an old transfiguration book.
  7. The Pitch: A candle created by Inflammare Candles smells like the Pitch, which is Fresh Air, Flying, Sweet Grass, and Dandelion.
  8. Do-It-Yourself Broomstick Servicing Kit: The kit is actually a pencil case, which I think could easily double for a cosplay item or a photo prop.
  9. Broomstick Servicing Kit Note Pad: I can never have too many notepads.
  10. Broomstick Servicing Kit Compass: I really liked the overall design of this clip-on compass.
  11. Broomstick Polish: This is such a great idea. The “polish” is actually a detox face wash. The tin makes a beautiful display piece.
  12. Brooch Phone Holder: This replica of Professor McGonagall’s brooch is a stand to hold your cell phone. I love the little note that came with the brooch, signed by H.

Will I purchase another box from The Wizarding Trunk? Yes, in fact, I already pre-ordered the Halloween special edition box.

Did you receive this box? What are your opinions?

The Wizarding Trunk

Hello everyone! It's been a bit since I've posted so I thought I would share one of the subscription boxes I get with you guys. I've gotten at least 3-4 other boxes that I haven't posted (and probably won't since the items are scattered) but I'm really excited to share this one with you all. This is a bi-monthly subscription box that is currently themed to be different classes at Hogwarts. This box was themed Charms and Non-Magical Studies. The box I got previous to this one was Arithmancy and Care for Magical Creatures and it was great as well. These boxes are $65 and again, it is a bi-monthly subscription. Some of the items from the box can be found on the Wizarding Trunk website but the boxes themselves are not sold again. Without further ado, let's get unboxing!!

user uploaded image

.

.

.

.

item one: Olde Forbidden Bewitchments and Charms book cover

user uploaded image

I'm really excited about this first item. This is an exclusive book cover by Danny at Wizardry Workshop and it comes right from the restricted area in the library. These book covers are always so beautiful and have great foiling. These are also made to fit the Harry Potter first American hardback edition and this one fits the fourth book. It's absolutely gorgeous and I love it. Unfortunately, I do not have the first edition hardback books but I'm sure I will be able to find a book it fits on OR I will buy a set of these books if I can find them and they aren't too expensive.

item 2: handcrafted wooden wand

user uploaded image

This wand has a very simple design but it's still very beautiful and was handcrafted by Windermere wands. The wand details are as follows:

Wood Type: Maple

Flexibility: Resolute

Core: Dragon Heartstring

Length: 12"

item 3: lumos book reading light

user uploaded image

I have had the most fun with this item. This book reading light comes with a laser pointer! If you have a cat, you know what I'm talking about. When I opened this box, I probably spent at least an hour just playing with the laser pointer, making my cat chase it all around the house. Highly addictive and very distracting! AND there's no need to hide under the covers and use your wand lighting charm to read or do your homework :joy:

item 4: Auxilium Elixir

user uploaded image

Auxilium in Latin means "to aid or help" and that's what this potion does. This potion is meant to give your charm casting a boost but it is (unfortunately) forbidden in certain competitions. The bottle was designed by Danny at Wizardy Workshop and bottled by Pure Blood Apothecary. This potion is beautiful and looks great on my potion shelf.

item 5: "lights out" lavender sleep lotion

user uploaded image

This lotion is to help you turn out the lights at bedtime and get to sleep faster. It was created by Alchemy for the Skin. (And it smells really good too)

item 6: the Function of a Rubber Duck Investigation Report

user uploaded image

This is such a cute idea and comes with a little tiny rubber duck (which is the second one I now possess). This document is from Non-Magical Affairs tells you everything you need to know about this curious little object and it was designed by Danny from Wizardry Workshop.

item 7: the dueling club's dueling champion metal

user uploaded image

This metal is very beautiful and has a great weight to it. It feels just like a metal you would receive once you win a competition. Love love love

item 8: memory charm notepad

user uploaded image

This was designed by Twillings&Tattings. "For those who feel like a memory charm might have backfired and need a little help remembering things these days. This notepad could also be found in the ward for long-term residence."

item 9: avis pin

user uploaded image

The cheat sheet says "if you're ever in need of a flock of birds to do your bidding, this is the charm for you!". This pin is really beautiful, unfortunately I wasn't able to get a picture to clearly show how pretty it actually is.

item 10: charms club t-shirt

user uploaded image

I love this shirt! I immediately put it on and it is so comfortable. It was also designed by Danny at wizardry workshop.

item 11: charms practice feather

user uploaded image

It's ideal for practicing your levitation charms. This is such an awesome idea and it's a beautiful feather. Only wish it was a tad bit bigger for that added effect.

°°°•••°°°

And that's everything from this box! The items were super great all around. I absolutely love this subscription box because it just feels very magical and like you're actually taking the classes. My favorite items would have to be the reading light (solely for the purpose of the laser pointer), the book cover, and the elixir because I love a good potion. My least favorite item is probably the lotion but that's not to say it wasn't a good item. Tell me what you guys think!! What was your favorite item? Least favorite item? Or any item you would have liked to have seen?

AND IF YOU MADE IT THIS FAR...

I'm thinking about doing an updated post on all of my Harry Potter collection like my previous one on this forum but let me know your thoughts on if I should do that. There are definitely items that I haven't posted on here either because I didn't like all of the items in the box or I just never got around to it or it was just one thing that was very random or something like that so let me know down below if you would like me to post an update.

Features: ???

LitJoy Magical Subscription is a new Harry Potter subscription box… sort of. For the last two years, LitJoy had a quarterly subscription box with each box focusing on a different book, with two boxes for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I watched some of those unboxings to get a sense for overall value, and the items were definitely creative, high-quality, and well-received by fans.

The LitJoy website doesn’t give many specific details regarding what to expect in this new Harry Potter subscription box. This is the only description I could find.

The LitJoy Magical Crates come with a variety of collectibles and add-on products. Enjoy beautiful artwork, pins, mugs, socks, and more with this quarterly subscription!

LitJoy is based in the United States, but they do ship to many countries across the globe.

The Wizarding Trunk

The Wizarding Trunk has two subscription options. One ships bimonthly (every other month), and the other ships quarterly. Each trunk has a magical theme.

The bimonthly subscription even has an overall theme with a specific theme for each month. Previously the overall theme was all the Harry Potter books. The current overall theme is Magical Lessons.

The Wizarding Trunk makes many of the magical items, but they also work with other artists and small businesses. You do provide your shirt size and your Hogwarts House when you sign up, but there’s no guarantee of apparel or Hogwarts House items. Sizes are S to XXXXL, and the price is the same regardless of size.

Cost: $54.99/trunk (bimonthly) OR $64.99/trunk (quarterly)

Bimonthly Features: 8-10 items, including an exclusive book cover

Quarterly Features: 9-12 items

If you don’t want to sign up for a subscription, The Wizarding Trunk also sells individual items from past boxes, as well as a small standalone box with 5-7 items. The latter is a great option to test out The Wizarding Trunk to see if you enjoy the surprise selection of Harry Potter items.

The Wizarding Trunk is based in the United States. They do ship internationally.

Cauldron Crate

The Cauldron Crate has two subscription options at different price points. These ship out every four months. Each crate has a magical theme as part of a series.

The Premium Chest Features: 1 personalized item, 1 recurring item (?/7) based on the series, 1 Hogwarts house item, and 12+ other magical items, all handmade

Supposedly the Regular Chest has a value of at least £75 while the Premium Chest has a value of at least £110.

You can purchase some past individual items and some past crates if you don’t want an entire Harry Potter subscription box.

Cauldron Crate is based in the United Kingdom. They do ship internationally. I was unable to check the full list of destinations without going through the order process myself.

Magic Book Collectors’ Club

The curator of the Magic Book Collectors’ Club is Olleke, a retailer with three physical locations in Europe. They recently started a Harry Potter subscription box to expand their market. Each box looks like a vintage book!

Cost: About $59.87 (€49.90)/box

Features: At least 7 items, a mix of official merch, custom-made products, and other magical items for wizards and witches of all ages

The Magic Book Collectors’ Club ships internationally.

Final Thoughts

I know this post is a little different than what we normally share on Wizards Unite Hub! However, the holidays are just around the corner, and some of these Harry Potter subscription boxes sell out quickly.

I hope this detailed guide inspired you to treat yourself to something fun, or at least helped you check off your holiday shopping list for your favorite Harry Potter fan.

I’m always interested to hear your thoughts! Connect with me and the rest of the WizHub team here in the comments or on our social media platforms.

THE WIZARDING TRUNK 💀 Villains \u0026 Dark Artefacts

Is there anything better than receiving a parcel by Owl Post? Despite being as a grown witch, I love opening the front door to discover a box of goodies waiting on the doorstep – even when I know exactly what’s inside as I’ve ordered it on one of those Muggle shopping sites.

But the best kind of mail is when you don’t know what’s inside – when it’s a surprise. That’s where subscription boxes come in. Best of all, there are a number of Harry Potter subscription boxes to choose from. Each box typically contains magical items that will surprise you upon arrival, whether that’s monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, or some other cadence.

Below I break down some of the best Harry Potter subscription boxes available, and each one is a little bit different in terms of frequency, price, and the items they include. I recommend reviewing the full list, then choosing perhaps one or two to try – it would be very easy to blow your entire Gringotts savings on this loot!

1. Wizarding World Box from LootCrate

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - Wizarding World Box

The Wizarding World Box takes the #1 spot on my list of Harry Potter subscription boxes because it’s the only officially licensed one. While the rest of the subscription boxes on this list are all really cool, they do tend to take more liberties with the items included so as not to infringe on licenses.

This subscription box is sent every other month (so six boxes per year) and you personalize your subscription with your Hogwarts house. Each box includes 4-6 items total: house-specific items as well as generally awesome items from the Wizarding World. Best of all, it’s reasonably priced at $39.99 per box plus shipping (as of September 2021).

2. Wizard’s Vault from Bibbidi

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - Wizard's Vault

Next on my list of the best Harry Potter subscription boxes is the Wizard’s Vault from Bibbidi. This company has several fantastic subscription boxes in addition to this Wizarding World-inspired one: the Galaxy Box is inspired by Star Wars, the Universe Box is packed with superhero swag, and their original Bibbidi Bobbidi boxes are inspired by all things Disney.

Back to the Wizard’s Vault though, the best part is how personalized each box is: when you subscribe you share your gender (including a neutral option), Hogwarts House, pet species, and more. This allows you to receive a truly magical box every time.

They also offer two pricing options: the original Wizard’s Vault ($89 per box) and the silver vault, which has fewer items and a lower price ($49 per box)

3. The Accio Box

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - Accio Box

If you want a monthly Harry Potter subscription box option, The Accio Box is for you! This box will arrive each month with 4-5 magical items – some of which will be personalized to your Hogwarts House depending on the items.

And while I pointed out above that this box isn’t officially licensed, there is something great about it: they include products from small businesses and artisans that help distribute those Galleons beyond the Pottermore pocket. Accio Boxes cost $39.99 (+$10.49 shipping) for month-to-month subscriptions, and you can save 10-20% by subscribing for longer.

4. The Magical Subscription from LitJoy

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - Magical Subscription from Litjoy

If you’d rather save a bit and opt for a quarterly Harry Potter subscription box, The Magical Subscription from LitJoy is a good option. This box costs $54.99 (plus shipping) and includes 6-8 Wizarding World-inspired items to justify that higher price point. Taking a look on the site, you’ll see that past items in boxes were truly magical: from gorgeous artwork to magical trinkets you can’t find anywhere else (like Knight Bus tickets and dragon coins).

LitJoy, as their name suggests, is all about staying true to the literary spirit of the books, so everything here is loyal to the Wizarding World and what we know of it from the books (and occasionally movies too).

5. Cauldron Crate

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - Cauldron Crate

As I was writing this list, I discovered another Harry Potter subscription box and knew I had to squeeze it onto my list! Cauldron Crate is a UK-based subscription box (so for U.S. subscribers, shipping is a bit steep) that’s sent three times per year (every four months).

Each “chest” (box) has a theme, which means you can get a sense for what you’ll receive based on the name. Past chests have been inspired by both the books (“The Philosopher’s Chest,” “The Chest of the Half-Blood Prince,” etc.) and Horcruxes (“The Ring Chest,” “The Diary Chest,” etc.). Best of all, these boxes are packed with items, often including 10+ per box.

The standard subscription is £34.99 for 11+ items; there’s also a premium chest with 15+ items for £59.99. I’m super tempted to try one of these out!

6. The Wizarding Trunk

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - Wizarding Trunk

The Wizarding Trunk has been on a hiatus for a few months, but is coming back in late 2021 so they also make my list of great Harry Potter subscription boxes. Boxes are shipped bi-monthly or quarterly (two subscription options). They include 8-10 items, which makes the price really reasonable ($54.99 for bi-monthly and $64.99 for quarterly boxes).

Best of all, they work with small Magical Makers to include items hand-made by fellow Potterheads who love Harry Potter and the Wizarding World as much as you do.

7.-10. Wizardry Boxes from GeekGear

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - GeekGear

For a couple of different options, check out the various boxes offered by GeekGear. In my research, I found four: the Wizardry Wands box (£12.99 per box), the Wizardry Mystery Box (£25.99 per box, pictured above), the limited-edition Elf Box (£34.99), and the limited-edition Creatures Box (£34.99). I’m sure they have others too – showing you can either choose to subscribe or put together your own “subscription” to their limited-edition boxes.

Since the boxes vary quite a bit, it’s hard to say exactly what each one will include; using the Wizarding Mystery box as an example, you can expect 5-7 items from throughout the Wizarding World.

11. Salty & Lit Candle Box

Harry Potter Subscription Boxes - Salty & Lit

Is there anything better than lighting a candle, relaxing back on the couch, and cracking open a good book? We all know the answer is no – and that’s where the Salty & Lit Candle Box comes in. This is one of the less conventional Harry Potter subscription boxes on my list.

This box is a bit different, in that you receive the same type of item each month: a set of candles, along with some bookish items inspired by both the Harry Potter and Outlander series (so you’ll want to be a fan of both if you subscribe to this one!). However, the candles are inspired by an excerpt from one of the two series which is included in the box too. So you’ll get to know your favorite literary universes a little better and have delightful candles to light when you sit down to dive deeper into the books.

12. Harry Potter T-Shirt Club

If you want to sport your love of all things Wizarding World every day, this last Harry Potter subscription box might be worth it for you. The Harry Potter T-Shirt Club is actually run through Amazon, which is a platform I’ve never seen used this way. For $19.99 per box, you’ll receive one new t-shirt per box/month – and these are officially licensed shirts designed for and exclusively sold through the T-Shirt Club. Actually, for a simple concept, it sounds kind of magical!

Do you know of other Harry Potter subscription boxes I should include or review for this list? Let me know in the comments!

Share this post to inspire others to have a magical day!
