Paccar is recalling more than 1, Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks due to a possible defect in the fuel pump of certain Cummins ISX15 engines.Paccar is recalling more than 1, Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks due to a possible defect in the fuel pump of certain Cummins ISX15 engines.

More than 1, Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks equipped with Cummins ISX15 engines are being recalled by Paccar due to a potential problem with the fuel pumps.

The recall affects approximately 1, model year Peterbilt , , , and trucks manufactured between Dec. 20, , and April 17, , as well as model year Kenworth C, T, T, T and W trucks manufactured between Jan. 9, and May 5,

The recall states the affected engines could have faulty fuel pumps that can cause the drive gear on the fuel pump to spin loose on the drive shaft, resulting in the loss of the fuel pump’s functionality. This could cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Cummins will notify vehicle owners, and Cummins dealers will replace the fuel pumps for free. A notification schedule has not yet been determined.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall number is 17V, and the Paccar recall number is C Truck owners with questions can contact Cummins or Paccar customer service.

How to prime the fuel system on a paccar mx13 during a pm or fuel repair
  1. I got this Peterbilt with a paccar motor that I had to replace the water/fuel seperator filter and head. I am having a very difficult time getting the system primed back up again. There is a manual primer pump on the main fuel filter and I have been pumping it for a long time. We did get the truck to fire up a few times, the first time it ran not very long and the next couple times it was a couple minutes. Can someone please explain the best procedure for getting it primed? If I crack open the bleeder screw up to the right of primer pump on the block it lets out air with fuel but not all the time. Should there be a constant flow of plain fuel coming out of there if its being primed up right? Any thoughts or tips would really be helpful.

  3. There possibly are a small ring handle on top of or near the housing that contains the large fuel filters.

    Work that o ring back and forth a while. Then try to crank. I had a pete go down just the way or similar once and people worked on the primers at the fuel filter stack about 15 minutes to get it cranking again.
  4. I do not know the recommended way but got one running this way. Put very low air pressure, 5 PSI or less, on one fuel tank with vents closed on both. Bleed air from primary filter housing. Then from secondary and or where line was connected to head. Marked one injector nut and head for reference. Loosed that nut and feathered starting fluid in air filter just enough to keep it running a bit. It blew air and fuel out then fired up. Turned it off and tightened nut to original spot, restarted.
    I had a ProLink to read codes and other people had been trying to start it all day after it ran out of fuel.
    Be careful, high pressure.
    Worse to prime than a 2 stroke Detroit in my opinion. I spent some time on it and wonder if it had some other problem.
  5. I had this priming issue the first couple of oil changes on my MX13, it would start rough and then lose prime and die.

    What I do now is fill the spin on filter as much as possible before installing it, then I fill the separator filter as much as possible before tightening it up.

    I then start Pumping the primer pump without ANY BLEED PORTS OPEN, I emphasize that because it will not work if you use traditional methods for removing air.

    I just pump until the separator filter is completely full and I start hearing the pressure release valves in the head start clicking, this indicates that both filters are full and pressurized.

    Then the engine fires right up and gets smooth quickly without issue.
  6. So I think I got it..i start with the primary or fuel water separator. I drain it replace the filter.i noticed that paccar fuel pumps don&#;t run when the key is on the on position like Cummins ..ok so replace that filter and o ring then open the bleeder and have the driver crank it over.this fills up the filter housing and out of the valve it will spit blow bubbles and then you get that constant stream coming out. Shut the valve and let it run for a min or .then shut it off and go change the internal secondary, and try not to pull out all the fuel sitting in there. So replace the filter and o ring then do the same thing as be for open the valve and wait for the stream..iv done this on kenworth and didn&#;t have to use that ####ty hand peice of deep once!.im no tech degree wise but who the hell what&#;s to hand pump for 3 hours..not this guy 30 min done drops mic
