Reddit lagging

Reddit lagging DEFAULT

Why is Reddit so slow?

— Reddit’s new UI update — When Reddit updated its site down a year or so ago many users noticed a drop in performance that led to long load times for images, gifs and even comments.

— Internet connection — Much of the discussion around why Reddit is so slow revolved around the quality of users’ internet connections, particularly in different regions around the world.

— Browser type — Some users reported that certain browsers loaded Reddit quicker than others. For example, for Windows users, many users reported the site worked fine on Edge but had some lag on Chrome.

— Windows 10 update — Many users reported that Reddit went to sh*it after they updated their system to Windows 10.

— Server load — Many of the more techy users suggested the issues with Reddit might have something to do with increased server loads at sporadic times. One user went so far as to blame a specific subreddit for the drain on the server load: r/CatsStandingUp.

Version 1.11.2

KABOOM! That’s the sound of a juicy new update dropping. Here’s some of the really cool things I've been working on this summer, focused around the new iOS 15 update. (Apollo’s always gotta have the latest and great, right?) There’s a lot of awesome features and fixes in this update that I think you're going to love, so read on!

Widgets are too much fun, so I couldn’t stop there. iPadOS 15 introduced the absolutely gargantuan “Extra Large Widgets” and of course I wanted to take advantage of that with Apollo. So now you have FOUR new choices there for widgets, all being hit with whatever the opposite of a shrink ray is. You have an enormous photo widget that just oozes details from your favorite subreddits, as well as a variant that shows photos at a time in a beautiful gallery look. You can also now display your feeds in the Extra Large style as well, with a media-rich version that shows a large item to the left before the rest of your feed, or a more info-dense variant that shows up to 10 items from your feed all at a glance in the widget, you can basically browse Reddit right from there!

I worked with the delightful Michael Flarup to create these two awesome new Ultra icons (okay he did all the heavy lifting, he’s so talented). Apple isn't the only ones with new silicon this fall! Introducing the Apollo A1 and its mascot, Chippie! Both of these icons are delightfully cute, and show the powerful (if imaginary) chip that powers Apollo’s super fast and super customizable experience. Fun fact: did you know Apollo now has over 100 icons available?

Apollo’s icons are so gorgeous (I can say that without bragging because most of them I had designers do, hehe) that wouldn’t it be great if you could see them up close in even more luxurious detail? The new “Jumbopollo Widget” can take an icon of your choosing and blow it up to a gorgeous size, so you can have all the beauty of your favorite icon even bigger! Gather your friends around to marvel at the detail of the new Apollo A1 icon on your home screen. That’s a thing people do, right?

With iOS 15 adding support for Safari Extensions, it's now easier than ever to read Reddit links in Apollo via the Apollo Safari Extension available through the iOS Settings app!

With iOS 15 if you’re composing a comment, you can now swipe down from the top to shrink your writing and reference the thread for a second, before swiping back up to finish writing your comment.

You also have Quick Note support in Apollo, as well as Siri easily being able to share with friends. For Quick Note, just summon it from the bottom corner and you can easily add a link to the thread or subreddit you’re currently reading. And with Siri, simply say something like “Share this with Tim” and Siri will share your thread, subreddit, etc. with a friend named Tim. And even better, it’s not restricted to people named Tim! Tom is allowed too!

Also fixed some issues up around GIFs, plus a bunch of other little tweaks and improvements to speed things up. If you have any feedback or issues please reach out!

Thanks for always being so awesome and supporting my work, I love my job so much! I'm continuing to work hard on some really great updates that I can't wait to show you! Always got something better and better coming. :)

Absolutely Stellar App, Developer is 🔥

Apollo is by far the most-used app on my phone (and now I have the ScreenTime reports to prove it). It is orders of magnitude better than the “official” reddit app and is superior in every way. It is fast and smooth and packed with features. I especially love that I can pick the theme I want, change the icon, and remove ads! The thing I hated most about the official app was the ads that were disguised as legitimate posts and with Apollo that’s all gone!

I bought the Pro upgrade months ago to gain access to additional features and it was one of the few in-app purchases I have never regretted or felt like wasn’t worth the cost. Today the developer released an update adding a bunch of new features that require a very reasonable (seems underpriced to be honest) monthly subscription, and like a true bro he has the option to unlock it for life with a onetime purchase! I hate monthly and even yearly subscriptions so I especially appreciated this option.

All that by itself should convince you that this app is worth it, but the thing that really seals the deal is the developer. He is amazing. Super active with feedback and very open in his communication about the status of the app’s development and requested features.

The best Reddit app there is, no doubt about it.

Apollo is simply perfect, and you don’t really realize how many features you wanted in a Reddit app until you use Apollo. I used RiF for years and thought I really liked it, and when I made the switch to iOS about a year ago I was annoyed that I had to give it up. I tried 3 different apps on iOS before finally giving Apollo a shot, and that was that. It’s heaven compared to all of its competitors.

Swipe to upvote/downvote/save/reply along with haptic feedback is so convenient to use that I find myself engaging in comments far more than I did previously (there’s something so satisfying about that little “bzzt”). The ability to map your own gestures for different actions within the app is awesome too. On top of all that, it’s just a beautiful, sleek looking app that was clearly designed by someone who knows their stuff when it comes to UX.

Apollo also has its own subreddit, and Christian the sole developer is very active in it and is constantly adding features requested there. He’s a solid dude. Do yourself a favor and try it even if you think you love your current app. I can promise that you won’t regret it.

Fantastic Reddit client for iPhone

From first use, this app is a joy to use. It integrates incredibly well with the rest of iOS. The default settings are mostly intuitive (especially for first time users) and for those places where the app doesn’t do what you expect, the available options are extensive.

What prompted me to write this review was actually a feature of the Ultra subscription (also available as a one time purchase). I’d put off purchasing Ultra for a while, as the biggest draw to me was the message/reply notifications but I still used Narwhal for that. I recently subscribed to support the developer, and got my first notification. It’s great, it feels like an iMessage notification with a quick reply sheet opening up so I can respond with the easy option to open the full app as well.

The one limitation I encounter with this app is the iPad interface. It is not as well thought out as the iPhone interface; it’s basically a scaled up version of the iPhone interface. But as an iPhone app, this is the best Reddit client I’ve used (I even prefer it over the old and new website on a “real” computer).

How To Solve Lag Problem in Reddit Mobile App - Fix Lag Problem in Reddit

Specific sites (i.e. YouTube and Reddit) are lagging on Chromium-based browsers

Specific websites, namely YouTube and Reddit are lagging for me. It's not slow internet speed, but rather lagging. When I hover over a video to pause it, my mouse takes about 2 seconds before it turns into a pointer cursor. When I press the space bar to pause a video, it takes 2 seconds before it pauses the video. When I type a comment, I have to wait 2 seconds before it activates the comment box, and when I type a comment it staggers my letters.

However: Microsoft Edge has no problem on YouTube or Reddit. There is absolutely no lagging on Edge. I only mention these two sites because these are the only two sites I use that have problems so far.

Here's what I've tried so far:

  • Uninstalled my extensions (EXCEPT 1 SEE ANSWER)
  • Run virus checks from both malwarebytes and Mcaffee (nothing found)
  • I have both Chrome Browser and Brave browser (both running on Chromium) that experience the lagging. I have tried switching accounts to no avail.

This only happened after my most recent Windows update which was like 2-3 days ago. There have been no changes to what I have been doing besides the windows update.

What could be the cause of this weird lag for specific sites only for Chromium-based Browsers?

Lagging reddit

Hey all, I have a somewhat common problem with non-similar refresh rate monitors, but i have two 144hz panels and I am getting this issue.

Basically, whenever I have a fullscreen video on monitor 2 and I do anything on monitor 1 (scroll reddit, anything not in a focused game window essentially) the display "lags" quite massively as if it's locking itself to a lower refresh rate.

Monitor 1 is connected by dual link DVI, monitor 2 is connected by display port. both into my graphics card

specs are

i7 4790k
16gb ram
1080 ti
windows 7
2x ASUS VG248QE monitors running @ 144hz.

I can fix this issue by turning aero off, however I would like to avoid that as the solution if possible as I am so used to all the features of aero (window peaking, tab peaking, etc). Also I don't know what I did but I temporarily had fixed this issue by doing ????something??? and it came back after I restarted my PC. Not sure what to do from here. Also do not have geforce experience installed, just did a fresh gpu driver install.... any help is appreciated and I have tried most every solution that I can think of, aside from disabling aero.

Now they were overflowing with sperm, waiting for the moment to throw everything out, sweeping everything in their path outward. But I was determined to hold on as long as possible. I knew how to delay orgasm, and the longer, the more pleasant it would be to cum. But I also wanted to wait for Ann to grab my cock.

I wanted to see what those tiny fingers would look like, wrapped around my cock, jerking him off until I cum.

Now discussing:

The psychology of influence was calculated accurately, almost professionally. At a secret meeting, everything is agreed upon to the smallest detail. And when the place and time were chosen, all the details and roles were thought out - the great combiners set to work.
