Background[]

Prior to the events of Senran Kagura: The Black Swordsman[]

The Shimada Family back during the era where Overwatch existed was a vast criminal empire that profited from lucrative trade in arms, illegal substances, and assassination, It operated on a system where the eldest son of the family's head would become leader.

Eventually when Hanzõ was expected to replace his deceased father, Sojiro. Upon his father's death, the clan elders instructed Hanzõ to straighten out his wayward younger brother, Genji, so that he, too, might help rule the Shimada empire. When his brother refused, Hanzõ  had no choice but to kill him. This single act broke Hanzõ's heart and drove him to reject his father's legacy, ultimately leading him to abandon the clan. Seeing this as betrayal, the clan declared Hanzõ as an enemy and assassins were sent time and time again to kill him.

after that the family faced another hurdle as they were targeted by the organization known as Overwatch. In an ironic twist, Genji who had survived Hanzõ's assassination attempt, has been rescued by Overwatch, turned into a cybernetic ninja. Transformed into a living weapon, Genji single-mindedly set about the task of dismantling his family's criminal empire, a task in which he apparently succeeded. His mission complete, Genji left Overwatch.

The two brothers meet each other again on the tenth anniversary of Genji's supposed death, however since Hanzõ didn't know that person in front of him was Genji, he attacked him both verbally and physically, discussing Hanzõ's assassination of his brother. he unleashed his Dragon Strike ability, but Genji was able to manipulate it, a feat that only a Shimada should be capable of. He took off his mask, revealing himself as Hanzo's very much alive brother. He told him that he had forgiven him for what he did in the past, and now, Hanzo had to forgive himself. The world was changing, and they would have to pick sides. Hanzo wasn't swayed, but Genji told him that he still had hope for his brother. And with that, he disappeared into the night.

Between the aftermath of Overwatch and the events of Senran Kagura: The Black Swordsman[]

Several decades ago after the events of Overwatch and after Hanzõ and Genji go to their separated ways, Hanzõ who lived at Osaka at this time, meet his futur wife Sayuri and married her, their wedding revive the clan with Sayuri giving birth to Asuka's Mother who meet a his futur husband, at first  Hanzo did not approve of their relationship, and the two constantly fought about it. Asuka's father loved her so much that he was willing to give up his dream of becoming a lawyer, as long as he could be with her.

According to him, he didn't need dreams or money if he could spend his life with her. Hanzo was so moved by his resolve and dedication that he could not bear to refuse his proposal, allowed them to get married and decided to open up a sushi shop with Asuka's father.

Before they move out to Tokyo, Asuka who was 8 year old at that time meet his futur husband Fuyu Dragneel and his brother Hansuke Dragneel whose spend a lot of time together, she also meet a old friend of his grandfather, Akimoto Dragneel who was not only the father of Fuyu and Hansuke, but also the owner of the Dragneel Dojo at Osaka.

The shimada Family is considered as one of the most powerful ninja clan of the Shinobi World, as in the past the family ruled the entire city of Hanamura with an iron fist prior to their downfall at the hands of Overwatch Hanzõ and Genji who seek out to destroy the corruption of the family.

In the present day, The Shimada Family who despite the fact that it's has been reduced to a single nuclear family remain one of the most powerful ninja clan of the shinobi world,

Dragon's powers[]

All members of the family with the exception of Asuka, Fuyu and Yuuki had the ability to control dragons, only Hanzõ before his death and Genji showed that ability in combat.

  • Ryujin no ken wo kurae ("竜神の剣を喰らえ ! - The blade of the dragon devours!"): Genji's signature attack, When activated, he unsheathes his ōdachi, disabling the use of his shurikens for the duration. His primary fire is replaced with a fast-swinging melee-ranged slash that hits all targets in a small cone in front of Genji, dealing high damage with every hit. Genji will sheathe the blade at the end of Dragonblade's duration, regaining the use of his shurikens. while using that attack he also gain to ability to control the dragons.
  • Ryūu ga waga teki wo kuraū ("竜が我が敵を喰らう ! - The dragon consumes my enemies!"): Hanzõ's signature attack, When activated, Hanzo will, after a short cast time, fire a special arrow that creates a pair of spiraling twin dragons that will fly straight forwards in the direction of his crosshairs. These dragons will pass through all solid surfaces or barriers, dealing damage over time to any enemies that come in contact with them. The closer an enemy is to the center of the twin dragons, the more damage they will take.

Magia Erebea[]

Magia Erebea is a forbidden technique that was invented centuries ago by the shimada family, The user absorbs offensive spells designed to harm enemies into their own body to the point of it fusing their souls. This technique feeds on the user's body and soul, but in return, the user is granted power many times over than that of an ordinary person.

Only four members of the Shimada family has demonstrated the ability to control it

  • Genji Shimada: Genji was the first member of the family to have a complete control over Magia Erebea and even gaining a lightning form known as Raiten Ryū ("らいてん りゅ - Thunder Dragon") and Raiten Ryū II ("らいてん りゅ とぉ - Thunder Dragon II")
  • Asuka Shimada: Asuka was the first member of the family from her generation to fully control her Magia Erebea and the first one to use it in his complete form even gaining an Angelic form from it called Tentai kōri no joō no tenshi ("天の氷の女王の天使, Angel of the Celestial Ice Queen")
  • Yuuki Kõtetsu: Yuuki inherited this power from her mother, at first she had problems to control it due to it's corruptive nature, however after months of training under her Grand-parents and Homura, she is now able to fully control her Magia Erebea at will, her mastery of her Magia Erebea reached it's complete form and she gain an Angelic Form named Ten no kamigami no shiroi tenshi no shukufuku ("天の神々の白い天使の祝福 - Blessing of White Angel of Heavenly Gods")
  • Neo Nakamura: despite the fact that he is not a Shimada, Neo is show to also have a perfect control over his Magia Erebea, during the Second Shinobi Great War, he revealed his Magia Erebea form against Fuyu, the name of his Magia Erebea form is called Jigoku no honō ryū ("地獄の炎竜 - Hell's Flame Dragon").

More lore has been released surrounding the history of Overwatch’s Shimada Clan—and it looks like the Shimada brothers have a new enemy on their hands.

Overwatch revealed a new piece of lore today surrounding the history of Genji and Hanzo’s clan in their home of Hanamura, showing a new side to their story that’s grown over the course of five years.

The letter is written by Asa Yamagami, a woman whose husband, Toshiro, was seemingly captured by the rival Hashimoto Clan, leaving her and her young daughter alone in Kanezaka hoping that the Shimada Clan could retain the peace. She mentions that her husband left a set of blades for her daughter, yet also forged many for the Hashimoto Clan in captivity.

In a recent developer update, Jeff Kaplan revealed that Kanezaka will join the rotation of Deathmatch maps in Overwatch in early 2021. And with this drop of lore, it seems like its release is imminent.

Asa provides a descriptive look into the atmosphere of Kanezaka that highlights the livelihood of the area, as well as its notable history as the home of the Shimada Clan. But it seems that as of late, the Hashimoto Clan and their control of the area have been the target of vicious attacks by an unknown presence, which has only heightened the tension and fear of the residents of Kanezaka who are at their will.

This new lore drop could be hinting at an upcoming release of Kanezaka, as well as the possibility of a new event tied to it featuring the Shimada Clan against the Hashimoto Clan. There’s also the possibility that this could be the first of many teasers for Hero 31, but it’s too early to say for sure.

Who is currently the leader of the Shimada clan?

Nevera:

They work with Talon, thats kinda a given.

What makes you think that?

We know from Retribution that Sojiro refused Talon in the past and in the present day, Hanzo has refused Talon multiple times. Voice lines aren’t confirmed canon, but they imply that he would not want to ally himself with them; even though he’s no longer with the clan, we have two of the Shimadas explicitly refusing Talon, so it’s really not a given that they work with Talon now. Clearly, something about Talon was not in line with the Shimada clan’s way of work.

Of course, seeing as we don’t know who leads them now and what is the extent of their reach, power and actions, anything is possible, but it’s far from being a given that they’re allied with Talon.

Smoke-12627:

Is the Shimada clan still active in present day? I was under the impression Genji had dismantled them.

That’s another issue with this question. Genji has indeed dismantled them: it was requested of him in exchange for Overwatch rebuilding him as a cyborg. He has successfully finished his job (we don’t know how he did that, but we know what Blackwatch Genji looked and behaved like, so I doubt he showed up and asked nicely).

We have no idea how many of the Shimadas or any relevant parties connected to the clan are even alive. The Shimada castle seems abandoned and if any business is being conducted, I doubt it is there. Most people will say that the presence of guards at the castle in the Dragons short implies the clan is still alive and active, but the guards could simply be guarding the historic property of the castle, not necessarily the clan itself.

Either way, I doubt the Shimada clan is particularly active currently. Besides losing both heirs, one of them dismantling the clan a decade ago and the abandoned look of the castle grounds, it’s highly unlikely that there were any players big enough left to continue the Shimada criminal empire. If there is someone, they’re likely irrelevant or working in secrecy, which, as of now, boils down to being irrelevant. It’s also possible their legacy was taken over by some other clan that we don’t know about, which again, boils down to being irrelevant currently.

You and I know well enough, we two who make and wield the sword, that while their castle was indeed strong stone, the Shimada were no gods, but people—and criminals at that. But the Shimada understood that honor and loyalty forge the strongest bond between ruler and ruled.
~ Asa Yamagami

The Shimada clan is a clan of ninja based at Shimada Castle, in Hanamura.[1]

History[]

The clan was founded centuries ago,[2] and operated out of Shimada Castle, with the town of Kanezaka serving as their seat of power.[3] It operated on a system where the eldest son of the family's head would become leader.[2]

While they were criminals, the Shimada understood that honor and loyalty forge the strongest bond between ruler and ruled. They asked much of those who followed them, but they inspired them to give it. And in return, the Shimada clan led with integrity and treated the people of Kanezaka with respect.[3]

The Shimada's power grew over the years, enabling them to build a vast criminal empire that profited from lucrative trade in arms, illegal substances,[2] and assassination.[1]

A snag was reached when Hanzo Shimada was expected to replace his deceased father, Sojiro. Upon his father's death, the clan elders instructed Hanzo to straighten out his wayward younger brother, Genji Shimada, so that he, too, might help rule the Shimada empire. When his brother refused, Hanzo was forced to kill him. This act broke Hanzo's heart and drove him to reject his father's legacy, ultimately leading him to abandon the clan.[2] Seeing this as betrayal, the clan declared Hanzo an enemy and assassins were sent time and time again to kill him.[4]

The Shimada faced another hurdle as they were targeted by Overwatch. In an ironic twist, Genji had survived Hanzo's attempted assassination, and been rescued by Overwatch, turned into a cybernetic ninja. Transformed into a living weapon, Genji single-mindedly set about the task of dismantling his family's criminal empire, a task in which he apparently succeeded. His mission complete, Genji left Overwatch.[5]

In the modern day, the Shimada appear to still be active, at least in limited capacity.[6] However, the Hashimoto clan took over Kanezaka, where the Shimada once held sway.[3]

Legend[]

In the background of Dragons, Sojiro[7] narrates an ancient legend of the Shimadas.

My family tells of an ancient legend about two great dragons brothers: the Dragon of the North Wind, and the Dragon of the South Wind. Together, they upheld balance and harmony in the heavens.

But the two brothers argued over who could better rule their land. Their quarrel turned to rage and their violent struggle darkened the skies, until the Dragon of the South Wind struck down his brother, who fell to earth, shattering the land. The Dragon of the South Wind had triumphed, but as time passed and he realized his solitude, the sweetness of victory turned to ash.

For years, the bereft dragon's grief threw the world into discord, and he knew only bitterness and sorrow. One day, a stranger called up to the dragon and asked, "O Dragon Lord, why are you so distraught?" The dragon told him, "Seeking power, I killed my brother; but without him, I am lost." The stranger replied, "You have inflicted wounds upon yourself... but now, you must heal. Walk the earth on two feet as I do; find value in humility. Then, you will find peace."

The dragon knelt upon the ground. For the first time he was able to clearly see the world around him, and he became human. The stranger revealed himself as his fallen brother; reunited, the two set out to rebuild what they had once destroyed.

Clan shimada

I began to take apart from curiosity. But what would it be like with another member, bigger than mine, with a more enduring and long lasting. I watched her orgasms several times - they were restrained, quiet and quick. I wanted to look at my wife from the side, as she ends up with another. I suddenly realized that it excites me more than my sex with my own wife.

I reported as a military man. While I was away, Lena had time to fry the chops and potatoes. - I didnt seem to be walking for a long time, you managed to cook everything so quickly.
